To others, its their life. 24/7 they are thinking about playing softball, how they can improve their swing or what they can do better. 
To the ones that think its just a sport, let me tell you a little bit about it.

To the people that play, its so much more. Its the grass stains, the dirt on your shoes and the trill of the base hitting your feet when you beat the throw. 
I'll lay it out for you. You have nine players on the field.
Pitcher and Catcher- these two people control the game. They go hand in hand. 
Infield- First base, Second base, Short-stop, and Third base. Short-stop is the person in between Second and Third.
Outfield-Left field, Center field, and right field. 
For people that have never touched a field before or know nothing about it may ask what the white lines are for.
That is the foul line, it is used to tell if the ball is in or out. It is a very fine line and it can make or break your game.

I remember doing team bonding and somebody saw the waiter at a restaurant staple their pants together. 
Team bonding makes you stronger as a team. Makes you communicate on the field together. It's much more than that. 
It's the feeling of excitement when the ball finally connects with the bat. The thrill of the trying to make it to the base before the ball does.
It is also strategy. There is a science to it. The catcher calls the pitches for the pitcher to pitch (curve, fast or drop). They also control where the pitch is being thrown (down the middle of the plate, high or low.) They basically call the shots. 
There is a different plays that you play at different times of the game. You are trying to make sure the other team does not score points. To do that, at certain times the catch throws the ball to make sure the person stealing the base gets out and doesn't advance to the next base. 
When your team is the one who is batting, stealing is what you want. You do not want to get out while stealing a base. My sister now helps coach softball for her old college team.

Fastpitch- when the pitcher pitches the ball as fast as they can. 
Slow pitch- under hand and there is an arch in the pitch
There is also different times you can play Softball. 
Spring- is normally when people play fast pitch. this is typically called school ball.
Summer- you can either play on a team for a club or just for your town
Fall- you can play this on a club team or just for fun. A lot of slow pitch teams play in the fall
