         <description><![CDATA[<div>Elections: members of the general assembly are elected via districts, that are roughly determined by population through census for the US. <strong><em>Terms are 2 years</em></strong><br>Qualifications:&nbsp;<br>General Assembly Leadership:&nbsp;<br>- The Speaker of the House is the Leader in the House of Representatives.<br>- In the NC Senate the Lt. Governor is the president of the Senate. Official vote for breaking a tie.&nbsp;<br>- The President Pro Tempore they preside and they appoint key positions (Standing Committees.)<br>Legislative Sessions: Short Sessions in even number years like (2018) Are short, around 6 weeks<br>- Long sessions in odd number years like (2019) are around 6 months.&nbsp;<br>- Special sessions can only be called by the Governor, Soeaker of the house and president of the senate.&nbsp;<br>Key Legislation:&nbsp;<br>- In 2005 the North Carolina State Lottery System, (The North Carolina Education Lottery) All of the state lottery tax,&nbsp; goes to Schools.<br>-&nbsp; 2006 minimum wage hike. The growth of minimum wage.&nbsp;<br>- HB2 Colloquialism. Public Facilities Privacy &amp; Security Act. </div>]]></description>
