I think the most important of the Big Ideas is A Results Orientation. Without knowing the results of something you cannot know how it went. When I ask my students how they did more often than not they tell me they think they did good. Many of them were right but there are a few that don't do as good as they think they would. If they/I didn't see their results they/I would never truly know how they did.

I would describe a PLC as a community of professionals that are all working to engage students at a higher level. But within that community of professionals are different ideas, different strategies and different teaching styles that can collaborate to ensure all students all reaching their full potential.

PLC is where educators come together with a shared goal of improving their teaching abilities and finding more ways to strengthen student learning and outcomes. Through this, educators can learn from each other and develop more effective teaching practices to benefit each of their students' academic performance.

The common thread that ran through this article was to ensure that all students learn at high levels (grade level or higher). I believe it begins with the first Big Idea "A Focus on Learning". Without individual teachers, grade levels, or schools focusing on learning (PLS), we will never move to collaboration or a focus on results.

A PLC is a collaboration of multiple members of the staff (subject, grade level, etc.) working together to provide the best educational experience for all students.

The part of the "Three Big Ideas" that I can connect with the most is "Collaborative Culture and Collective Responsibility". In order for this process to be successful, everyone needs to contribute an equal part to the process. For years, the 6th grade team has tried to make sure that we are always working together to make sure that we can provide the best educational experience for our students.

PLC's can be used in our building. It will be a challenge to implement, knowing that we are having to implement these by teams and by departments. PLC's take a great deal of time to implement effectively. It will require great amounts of coordination to have the time necessary to make these work.

The two most difficult tasks will be common formative assessments and the assessment system. We have worked together as a unit for years and know what the others are doing. However, the common assessments are not something that we have looked into. We need to have an intervention system. I know that we are trying to address this in our Student Progress Meetings. Once we have a system of defined interventions, this will be much easier to implement for our team.
