Yes there are ways beyond social media that we isolate ourselves because we do no want to see or hear other points of views and one of those ways are having confirmation bias, which is the tendency to search for information that aligns with one's beliefs. As we are subjected to our own opinions, we can also be sometimes not interested in looking all sides of opinions and yes, this mostly happens on social media and also in the outside world where people debate on concerning issues. Others are also extremely loyal to a certain candidate, but cannot give proper evidence or reason as to why.

There are also situations where I tend to slightly isolate myself from other points of view. But only slightly, because after the heat of passion, I do cool down and try to see things from a different perspective. Sometimes I come to understand their arguments, other times I still feel that I would like to continue believing what I know. One was to help change this trend is to teach someone the value of listening. This is much more effective than teaching people that it is also important to listen to other perspectives. The latter is not enough since a person who does not wish to help themselves helped cannot be helped. Though this topic is quite sensitive due to the possibility of being canceled, everyone's opinions should have a say and be valid. There are ways to isolate ourselves though it isn't as easy nowadays with the incoming elections distancing and distracting ourselves is important to avoid bias and emotional attachment. Personally, I do social media detoxing. I either dedicate a day without using social media or avoid using my phone because it silences the never-ending chaos in the world. Another, be quick to listen but slow to speak and anger. It's better to accumulate enough facts to hold a position in the discussion. It's better to listen thoroughly than react immediately. With the 2022 elections are coming up, people are isolating themselves more and more into their political bubbles and that's a pretty big issue. What ends up happening is that these people don't actually get to take in the whole situation and end up voting for someone just because they don't see the bigger picture. Aside from social media, we tend to isolate ourselves and reinforce our beliefs by hanging out with people with similar ideas as well as not wanting to change our point of view. To be honest, it takes effort to change your opinion on something so some people don't try to learn more about the other side's thoughts and views. There are a few practical things young peacebuilders can do to change this trend. First, we should learn to apply this to ourselves. Embrace the other side's ideas and try to understand why they support this person or that idea. Second, social media is a no-no as it doesn't prove to be all the reliable. Finally, don't be afraid to discuss it with people with different beliefs. Many people are getting into arguments because of who they support and it's really sad because they would put violence over morals in situations like that. I've had experiences where a family member would ask others to respect their opinion, meanwhile they cannot even respect the other side because they are (apparently) in the wrong. The only wrong here is the fact that people make this the main reason as to why relationships are being broken, where they put their political beliefs first.

I would say that I tend to isolate myself with this because I find it to be too stressful especially with how elders educate me on it; feels like I am drowning in too much information that is being brought to me in a wrong way, through force. I would love to hear everyone's POV when it comes to politics so I can further understand them, but it is too tiring because of the way they do it. Halatang pinipilit yung bata/forcing them to convert into their side. What we can do to resolve this is to educate and having an open mindset.
