The motif, the importance of dreams, is shown throughout the novella The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. In the beginning, the motif is shown as, “ And our house would have running water and pipes that worked.”(Cisneros 4) In the text, Cisneros uses the word “would”  to bring the text into future tense.
