I chose this book because the book I chose for the last choice novel was called "The one and only Ivan". "The one and only Bob" is a sequel to "The one and only Ivan", and I really liked "The one and only Ivan" so I was very curious to read this book. I was hoping to enjoy this book the same way I did with my first choice novel.

The book starts off by introducing the main character, "Bob". He talks about himself and admits that he is not a very good dog. He misbehaves a lot, like rolling in the garbage and eating things he probably shouldn't. He talks about his past, such as who used to own him, and what type of dog he is. He says that his initial owner was Julia, and his full name was Robert which was the original name that Julia gave him. He says that he is a mixed breed, otherwise called a mutt. On the first page of the book, it says, "Look nobody's ever accused me of being a good dog. I bark at empty air. I eat cat litter. I roll in the garbage to enhance my aroma. I harass innocent squirrels. I hog the couch. I lick myself in the presence of company. I'm no saint, okay?" This first page introduces who Bob is and what he does. In the next few pages, he gets flashbacks of his past, and he continues to introduce himself.

Early in the book Bob remembers his past as a stray dog on the streets. He recalls how he survived by stealing food and hiding from people who would try to capture him. These memories help readers understand why Bob is fiercely independent and hesitant to trust humans. They also set the stage for the book's main conflict: Bob's desire to protect his animal friends at the Big Top Mall.

Connection to a movie

1. I can connect this book to the movie "Rocky" because throughout the entire book Bob and his animals friends persevere. In the movie "Rocky" the main character Rocky Balboa has to persevere to win all of his fights. He has to train every day, so he can win. They showed his hardships, and his struggles, but he persevered through all of it and won all of his main fights.
https://www.michaeldpollock.com/rocky-balboa/

2. In the movie "Raya and the last dragon" we can see a common theme with my book. When watching this movie I found that it followed the theme "trust" same as my book did. I can connect to both of them because the movie shows how one should trust someone even in the face of a conflict, whilst in the book it talks about Bob and his trust issues. Bob had trust issues since he was abandoned by his initial owner. With both of these themes I can connect both of these.
https://screenrant.com/raya-last-dragon-ending-classic-disney-trope-change/#:~:text=Raya%20and%20The%20Last%20Dragon%20pushed%20a%20superficial%20message%20about,trust%20throughout%20its%20vast%20catalog.

3. There is a television show that I used to watch called "American Ninja warrior junior". This show is about kids doing hard parkour to win a prize. I thought that being on TV is already stressful enough, but on top of that they have to do hard parkour, and have to go through multiple days of training to perform the stunts. The kids persevered through all of this, and showed that they can do it. I can connect this to my book as Bob has to persevere to save him and his animal friends from a dangerous storm.
https://mobile.twitter.com/LizGoodman1/status/1535357249631227904 This tweet shows the perseverance a girl went through, to get third overall in this TV show.

In my book it shows the flashback of Bob's past. I think they show this because the author wanted to show why exactly Bob has trust issues. When reading the flashback it helped me better understand why he never trusted anyone immediately. The flashback gives him a reason to act disobediently.

Overall I think that it was very important that the author included this for two main reasons because it gives him reasoning why he has trust issues, and gives him reasoning why he acts disobediently at times.

1. One of the main themes through out the book was "perseverance" and I can connect to the Russia and Ukraine war with this. I can connect to this because the Ukrainian government is persevering even through this horrible time.

https://www.cfr.org/article/war-choice-war-perseverance

2. The famous marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge ran a record breaking less than 2 hour marathon run! I can connect this to my book because, in my book the main theme is perseverance. Throughout his entire race Eliud Kipchoge had to persevere, he knew that he had to go really fast so he sprinted the last mile so he could get less than 2 hours. He had been going on around a 4:37 mile run pace. The average American can run a mile in around 9-10 minutes. Keep in mind that he had to run this pace for around 26.22 miles! He had to persevere throughout the entire race so that he could beat the record.

https://inspiremykids.com/eliud-kipchoge-for-the-worlds-greatest-marathoner-its-all-about-consistency/
