Before they even won the war, they started writing the Declaration of Independence. this was written by Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. It was signed by many more and this document basically gave us our rights that we have today. No matter what happened in this war, the colonist wanted their freedom and wouldn't stopped until they got it. It was written in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and wrote our basic human rights. Some of them have changed now but most of them have stayed true.

These 2 battles were big turning points in the war. The colonist won both battles after two ambushes by the British. The colonist forced the British to surrender, almost 6000 troops gave the colonist their guns and other resources and letting us take control of the northern colonies. Because of this big victory, it convinced France to join and fight with us.

Valley forge was the birthplace of the army. It was special to them and they wanted to protect it. Washington wanting a better army, trained them and trained them hard. Many wanted to fire Washington because they thought he was incompetent. The cold winter made the hike to the valley hard and unbearable. Their clothing made it worse for them and lost -10,000 men in total. The houses were make shift and were not good for the cold winter. There were over-crowded, had very little food, didn't have good clothing, and many got ill. On June 19, 1778, the real battle began. Washington's army had spirit and fight in them and won the battle nine days later.

After the battle of Yorktown, there were many small scrimmages but the British knew the war was over, and not in there favor. 3 delegates from America Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay went to Paris, France to make a negotiation to finish the war and declare the US as an independent country. The treaty of Paris set the boundaries and the British made peace with Spain and France. They agreed on Fishing rights and that each side will pay it's own debts. When the treaty was signed, everything the colonist worked so hard for, officially came true and made them the United States of America.

Bunker Hill June 17, 1775

Bunker hill was the first major battle of the war. The colonist took control over one hill taking high ground, making it harder on the British, and easier on the colonist. The colonist after taking the high ground, started to kill a lot of the British, basically half of their fighters that day and felt for the first time, they had a chance in this war. Although the British basically won the battle. The colonist were ordered to "not shoot until you see the white in their eyes" to save ammunition. Even with these orders, they ran out of ammunition and had to throw rocks and eventually, had to retreat. The colonist named it a phyeric victory meaning even though they won, we did more damage then they did.
