Miyazaki's depiction of nature in Japan made me really want to visit in the future, while the fantasy aspect of the movie made me think of Japanese folklore. Part of why I wanted to learn Japanese was because I've been really interested in shintoism and Japanese folklore. The illustration of the big tree and the seeds Totoro gave Mei made me think of all things in nature having an essence or spirit. This movie was very comforting.このえいがすきです。

Momo witnesses some unusual events in her new home, such as being chased by strange silhouettes and hearing strange voices throughout the house. She eventually discovers three goblin-like creatures accidentally, and everything begins to change. Momo starts to understand the purpose of the goblins and learns that they have a connection with her father. Eventually, Momo can apologize to her father and asks the goblins to send a letter to him for her. This movie deals with themes of grief, and it feels more realistic compared to other anime shows and movies. The goblins help Momo grow as a person, and she develops a much better relationship with her mom, the only parent she has left.

They have known each other since elementary school. They are so close to each other that they confide everything to one another, except for their growing emotions. When they enter high school, Akari moves to another city. As they don't get in touch, the relationship sinks into oblivion. The story then centers on the development process of 2 characters. However, the emotions of first love are still there. I really love the movie because of its beautiful animation and rich storytelling metaphors. Moreover, how heartbreaking or heartwarming the scene is portrayed also makes a great impression on me.

This movie was about a detective and his wife who had just moved into a new neighborhood, and they found their neighbors to be rather odd. Their immediate next door neighbor especially. The ex-detective is called to help with an unsolved case that has to do with a disappearing family. As the movie progresses, their neighbor, Mr. Nishino, becomes even more creepier and entangled with the plot. The detective comes to realize that there is something off about him, but his wife becomes brainwashed by him. There are many twists and turns leading up to the ending and it is crucial to pay attention in this movie. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending left me satisfied , though a bit confused, as it was open-ended. Also, a character that I really liked was killed off early which was rather unfortunate. One thing I didn’t like about this movie was that it seemed a bit senseless. It seemed as though the characters did not think before they did things, and I wish there was a bit more common sense, especially since the main character is supposed to be a super smart detective. But I did really like how the detective’s case was connected to Mr. Nishino; they seemed like separate cases but they actually tied together with one another. Overall, the movie was pretty good; it was very suspenseful and successfully creeped me out.

Asuna decides to go on the journey to find Shun.
I love the movie's animation the most because the imagery is dreamlike and fanciful. Indeed, the first part of the film is quite boring because of the lengthy dialogues and some unrelated scenes. Only when Asuna comes to Agartha does the film actually capture my attention. The urgent narrative just makes me want to know what will happen next. Overall, the movie is visually catching with passable premise of the plot.

She asks him to become her teacher . This movie about her becoming a better ramen chef and going around and checking out competitors ramen shop. In conclusion she creates a very successful ramen shop with the help of her new friends. This movie specifically highlights the relationship with food. It sees food not as a object but as an actual relationship you have, there are many interesting scenes, such as the egg yolk scene, and the spaghetti scene. Would recommend! but it is really hard for a new Japanese learners to understand because all the men speak kind of roughly with slang I think. 10/10

The twist is that they have opposite gravitational pulls so being together is very difficult. The police are after Patema as her kind is not welcome there, and her and age must come together to save the day and each other. In the end, it turns out that the ones thought to be inverted were actually the normal ones, and it was the others that were upside down. I personally thought this movie was fairly enjoyable, with a few funny and dramatic parts. At times it was very cheesy and the main villain is weak in terms of motivation. The first meeting between Age and Patema, and the ending were both very cool scenes, and the movie was overall not bad.

The apartment above belonged to a little girl who disappeared two years ago and was never found. The mother and daughter start to have creepy encounters, such as hair in their water and a red bag (that belonged to the missing girl) showing up in different places. The ghost of the missing girl, Mokiko haunts both Ikuko and her mother–nearly drowning Ikuko and drawing her mother to the place where she died. An elderly woman named Tokue applies for a job. She is rejected numerous times until she gives a free sample of her own bean paste. Sentaro decides to hire her, and they combine their talents to create the best darayaki. However, Tokue eventually grows ill and quits working. She dies shortly after, but a cherry tree is planted in memory of her. The film reveals how your age does not define your abilities. Those who appear the most frail come with the most surprises, and unexpected bonds form.

They defy the each other's concept of gravity, but the two can fly together. Both worlds portray different sides of futuristic Japan, and each society has rules that limit their citizens. The land of Aiga (Age's world) exists to keep law and order after an experiment against gravity went wrong. Patema's world is the result of the failed experiment. Aiga's leader discriminates against the "Inverts" due to their abandonment long ago. The story was very thrilling from the beginning to the end. However, the imagination that went into this film fascinated me, and it definitely is one of my favorite anime movies now!

Kondo believes he is Takashi but soon remembers his position against a group of gang members. Takashi, Kondo, and Kanae end up working together to stop the gang once and for all. My favorite part of this movie is the very end when Kanae and Kondo decide to stay together even after Kondo's memories return. Kondo, a "handyman" for hire loses all of his memory after an accident at a bathhouse, only to have his identity stolen by Takashi, a broke actor whose incompetence led to Kondo's memory loss. Kondo eventually becomes friends with Kanae and their relationship grows as they try to uncover the details Kondo's past. Meanwhile, Takeshi is running around the city, spending all of Kondo's money and becoming increasingly entangled in Kondo's old criminal lifestyle. After listening to his favorite string quartet, Kondo regains his memory and Takeshi, Kanae, and Kondo himself must work to straighten out the mess that Takeshi has made with the local gang. Overall, I loved this movie and so did the rest of my family. The film is filled with humor, some quite dark, but the film in total never takes itself too seriously and is an enjoyable watch all the way through (even though the swapping of identities does become difficult to follow near the end.) Personally, I really enjoyed the cinematography of the film, as it made use of many long shots that really gave the actors time to shine and Teruyuki Kagawa had an amazing performance throughout!!

Tokue, a 70 year old lady with deformed hands, approches him looking for a job. At first he rejects her, fearing she will hurt herself, but after tasting her homemade bean past, hires her so he can learn how to make it himself. Once the locals learn the Tokue's hands were scarred by leprosy, they avoid the shop and Sentaro is forced to let her go. Eventually, Sentaro visits Tokue at a former leprosy sanatorium, where he expresses regret for not protecting her from customer's prejudice. It is revealed that Sentaro seriously hurt a man in a bar fight, had to pay a large reparation to the injured man, and is in debt to a loan shark who owns his dorayaki shop. By the end of the film, Sentaro is selling dorayaki in a different stall, implying that he has accepted his mistakes and moved own. I enjoyed this film and thought it dealt with prejudice and the past in powerful ways. The cinematography is very beautiful, and the opening few minutes with no speaking are especially powerful.

In order to escape the stress of a new mom and to catch the attention of her crush, Hinode, she turns into a cat using a mask she bought from a mask seller at a festival. Miyo switches between human and cat form for quite a while, when she decides to reveal her feelings to Hinode in human form, hoping she can be with him as a person. He is teased by classmates and rejects her, so she becomes convinced that she needs to permanently turn into a cat so she can be with him. Once a cat, however, Miyo sees how much everyone misses her, and how hard they look for her. She decides to turn back human, but she needs her face back from the mask seller. She is forced to venture into the mystic cat land, where Hinode chases her to retrieve her mask and escape back to be with Hinode forever as a person. I thought this was a very cute movie. The animation was so cute, and the premise was not something I've ever seen before, or something that an American filmmaker would make, which was so fun and refreshing. I really enjoyed this movie, I thought it handled some dark and sad themes in a very whimsical manner, without making light of them. All of the little cats were so cute too! I wish there was more time in the cat land because they were so adorable.　このえいががすきです。

One world is underground filled with several tunnel networks while another is on the “surface”. The two characters, Patema from the underground, and Age from the surface, go on an adventure together discovering secrets and information about their worlds. Patema, a brave and curious young girl who also happens to be a princess, falls into Age’s world, where it is known as “Aiga”. There, she meets Age, an unhappy student of the nation. Age saves Patema from falling into the sky and facing the leaders of Aiga who are not happy to see Patema, a “sinner who fell into the sky”. The film is a sci-fi with different perspectives on perspectives and touches on stuff like the idea of gravity and the forces of gravity. The film even touches on friendship, different worlds, and family. It also really messes with your mind and which way is up and which way is down.

A silent voice is a high schooler boy, Ishida, who is depressed to the point where he tries to commit suicide. This is because he regrets bullying a deaf girl named Nishimiya back in elementary school. Because of this, even though multiple kids bullied Nishimiya, Ishida took the blame, and he was bullied and left alone since then. However, Ishida tries to build a friendship with Nishimiya when he sees her at the same high school as him one day. He show's that he has learned sign language and he tries to connect Nishimiya with people from their elementary school. Even though Nishimiya and Ishida gain many friends throughout the movie, deep down Nishimiya is depressed as ever, as she learns her hearing is worsening and Ishida doesn't understand her love confession. She also feels that she is a burden to everyone to the point where she tries to kill herself. However she survives and gets reunited with Ishida. This movie is great to watch because it shows a complex topic like depression and show's the audience what it's like to have depression. It gives awareness that not everyone who is depressed looks depressed, and even with this dark topic, it is tied in a sweet love story. Although the manga goes deeper in the love story, The movie does a great job focusing on Ishida's acceptance of himself despite what he did in the past, and learns to actually want to interact with people and stop dragging himself down with self pity.

Momo eventually learns that these spirits have a connection to her deceased father and help her to apologize to him and let her deliver a final letter to him, as she is able to reconnect with her mother at the same time. I really enjoyed this movie, not only because I thought the animation was really beautiful, but that I felt the movie had a moving message about dealing with grief. It was very interesting to compare the film with other more western films about the loss of a loved one, as it very much about Momo finding herself as it is about her dealing with the loss of her father.

The plot really picks up as the elderly woman is revealed to have suffered from leprosy and is forced into a hospital, in which she eventually passes away. Yet, she leaves her equipment to make bean paste to the shop owner, as well as a cassette tape recording. Through her recording Sentaro, the owner, is able to come to terms with his place in life, as it is revealed that he is only working at the shop in order to pay back a loan shark. I really liked this movie, it was somewhat slow-moving which I love, and the characters are very realistic. This movie is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good movie.

The movie also follows a female student who is poor and debating whether she should continue into high school. Tokue has a unique way of looking at the beans, treating them almost as if they are people. I find that she is a very kind soul. The cherry blossoms at the beginning and the scenery over all was very beautiful. It was heartwarming at times, like when Tokue was helping out at the shop, but also heartbreaking, like when Tokue quit because of the rumor mill or when she was talking about when she came to live in the community where the other leprosy/Hansen Disease patients were moved to. It was strange seeing how quiet and empty the place was, as well as how it looked like a mini city set up for them. The long walk to the community emphasized how separated they were from the rest of the city.

The girls' mother, Yasuko, is recovering from a long-term illness. One day, Mei discovers two small spirits who lead her into the hollow of a large camphor tree. She befriends a larger spirit, which identifies itself by a series of roars that she interprets as "Totoro". She falls asleep atop Totoro, but when Satsuki finds her, she is on the ground. Despite many attempts, Mei is unable to show her family Totoro's tree. Tatsuo comforts her by telling her that Totoro will reveal himself when he wants to…I was little when I watched this movie for the first time. I was so impressed by the drawing of nature in Japan. After my first watching, I was always believed that there truly are mysterious spirits like Totoro in the deep forest in my childhood. このえいがは おもしろいでした。トトロはとてもかわいいでした。わたしは このえいががすきです。
