I also used several conventions within the production of my ancillary tasks. One example of this is my use of tag-lines and sublines. This was an important step of my production from my magazine because it is uncommon for a magazine to not have taglines and sublines as they draw the audience to the magazine and inform the audience of what it is going to feature within the magazine. In order to be as conventional as possible I followed an Empire magazine with several examples of sublines and taglines. It was important for me to use the convention as this is one of the most identifiable conventions of a magazine. This convention was further supported by my use of buzz and key words, words and phrases such as ‘Cristopher Nolan’ draw attention to the magazine. This is conventional for many magazines as it is a useful way of drawing in the audience to read it.

I followed conventions within my film poster through my use of colour. Typically real film posters use colours that complement the theme of the film, I did this by using a majority of pink, purple and blue. This is because pink connotes love but, also because blue, purple and pink are able to show a transition from one thing to another. As this is an important theme within our trailer I thought to use it in my film posters as well. The use of these colours have been used in many real life film posters such as the weekend and moonlight.

In contrast in my film poster and magazine I also challenged conventions. One convention I challenged in both the film magazine and poster was having my actors look directly into the camera. One reason I challenged this convention in my film poster was because I wanted them to be turning their backs to who they were before as well as to relationship norms. This was important as it is a major film within our film trailer so, was important to feature in my poster. In my film magazine, I decided to challenge this convention in order to highlight the two characters relationship with each other and by being in this position it is obvious that they are in a relationship.

Another way I followed conventions was the use of the rule of three’s. This rule is the idea that film posters and magazines should only use three colours within the scheme this is so the audience doesn’t get overwhelmed from an extensive use of colours. This rule is followed in most magazine and film posters and means that in order to follow colour conventions I also used the rule of three. Overall I think that following these colour conventions is an important part of my ancillary task as it allows my tasks to seem more professional.

I also followed conventions through making sure that the title of the film was obvious to the audience this is a large convention of both film posters and magazines. This is because making sure that the audience is able to recognise the film is important as magazines and film posters are methods of advertising and therefore the film should be recognised. This is also the reason that I made sure to feature my main characters in both the film poster and magazine as it made our film more recognisable. Additionally, I also used my main characters as a way for the audience to know who the film is about. All of these methods are conventional as they add to the advertising use of film posters and magazines.
