This year I have been letting go of control over the lessons and letting students be more independent with the instruction. This way they aren't so dependent on me reading everything to them. Focusing on standards based grading with the rubrics and goal setting has helped students want to set higher goals for themselves and try to meet their goals. I have noticed some student's attitudes change from putting in little effort, to trying to reach for a 3 or 4 on the rubrics. I am hoping with doing guided reading more fluently will help bring up students ELA grades.

Most of the times, the students know how to do the task, but they aren't sure what the question is asking them to do. I also plan on using it to help kids pace themselves and not rush through the test questions just to be done, but to actually put effort into their test.

I noticed some growth in math and in ELA but, not the necessary growth students should have. Almost half of the classroom is still at level 1 in ELA, which creates awareness of the need of rigorous instruction that provides students with opportunities to read closely to analyze and comprehend a range of complex text.
I will use the SBAC IAB/ICA to help students reflect on areas of improvement, to take pride about areas where they show success. Also, this information will be beneficial to me because my students are not only going to be learning but they will be getting familiar with the future assessments, and I will use the information obtained to drive my instruction.

I think the fact it was my first year as a 3rd grade teacher and my first year going through SBAC as well as my students first time taking it, had an influence on the results. Math was somewhat higher than I expected but not where I'd like to see the results.

My behavior problems are not as impactful on my teaching and the students' learning as it was last year. I am doing a lot more writing in math with Read Draw Write. I am more aware of the needs of my students and doing my best to direct my teaching to those needs in both ELA and Math. Our writing approach with CK content is more impactful this year and will hopefully result in more confidence with approaching writing prompts.

It is great for 3rd to have some exposure to test prep since they have never experienced SBAC before. I am hoping to relate what we have already been doing in class and give my students important strategies geared towards the type of questions we explore to strengthen their approach to SBAC.

Despite my endless efforts, it was more difficult for students to catch up in math than their progress in ELA.

As a grade level we are using standard based rubrics and we communicate often about tweeking our lessons. In reading I'm doing guided reading - this is still a work in progress, but students are receptive to the effort. In addition, I use juicy sentences to help with grammar. In math I use constructed written responses, or RDW, to tie in writing with explaining math procedures.

The 5th gd. teachers just reviewed how we are going to do a lesson a week. Students will have time to work on problems, then I will review questions with students to prepare them on use of the technology, review skills, and build up stamina for testing. The ICAs are performance tasks and those will be used closer to the test. My students need both reading & math practice, and I will continue to push forward with rigor in adding this practice website.
