This song was the crux of the theme I had chosen. The song is sung by Martina McBride in 2003 whereby she sings how a mother views her daughter. McBride is a mother of 3 daughters and the song shows how much love she has for them as she is able to see the world as a brighter place through their eyes. It touches upon the relationship a mother has with her daughter, as someone who views her as strong even when she might not feel that way. That her daughter pushes her to be strong.

I found this story on a website called Letter Pile, it was written by Colleen Swan. It tells the story about how the narrator's mother calls her a nickname whilst she was on the phone with a boy she had a crush on at the time. How she felt embarrassed about it, and how she regrets that feeling as the present it brough forward. It is revealed that her mother is now in a care-facility, she is doing well but has some memory problems. The narrator wonders whether her mother would even remember the event if recollected to her. She reminisces about the nickname, about how everyone has one given to them lovingly by their mother.

Kamala Das is a poet from India, though this poem is a lot shorter than Lim's or Swan's story, it has a very clear message. It describes the view of Kamala as she looks behind at her mother. She explains the way her face has aged, how she realized that her mother has changed. That she is no longer the woman she used to be when Kamala was younger. She elaborates how she mourns her mother, despite still being alive, she realizes how each passing second is time chipping away at her mother's life.
