But I have to say, we were surprised to find, through a series of comparisons, how much of our behavior was consistent with the behavior of the ‘ at risk’ students.

And we quite agree with all the teacher's opinions, especially most of our students' blind pursuit of grades. As the teacher said, such behavior is unreasonable, we should study down-to-earth and have a correct view of study.

And in terms of the way for feedback, there are some similarities. Many of our schools give each student a booklet with comments and encouragement from the teacher. And if a student behaves badly, the teacher will have a private conversation with him or her. But the difference is that we have very little feedback from our peers.

In the recent study, we have noticed the feedback from the teachers. It's really useful. Because a lot of times we don't realize what we need to improve. The teacher's advice and feedback helped us to recognize these problems. Moreover, these feedbacks are thought-provoking, and we should reflect upon them and find ways to correct them.

Ivy said that What surprised her the most was that this writer had so much influence at the time, and combined with the background of the times, he wrote so many excellent works to reflect the reality and darkness of society. He wrote the memory of that era with a pen. Neo said that the part that surprised her most is that usually novels are not very formal style, but the words and phrases he created are used until now, even included in the dictionary. His words and thoughts will remain forever. I've heard one of his books called "Animal Farm", but I don't know that he is such an influential person. I was also surprised by his “six rules for a writer” because my teacher taught me that it is always better to used passive when writing. Take English news as an example, using passive makes the article more objective and neutral. Laura said that the same that the writer shocked her because he had the status of Lu Xun in China, and was shocked because she had never known about such a Great man. 

3. We don’t have enough background knowledge of George Orwell, it’s more difficult to understand than the previous lecture which contents are more daily and more closer to life.

4. The story is not relevant today because it has a different background with today so we have a difficult to understand that era’s thing.

Neo: “I still have no way to say whether I like it or not, because I definitely don’t know George Orwell and political culture enough, but I think there must be a special reason why he is so famous. I am still absorbing new information so far.” Ivy and Laura are also not sure about like or dis like because the PowerPoint doesn’t contain enough key points and it is hard to understand the content.

All of us liked the lecture because not only the topic but also the lecturer’s delivery was interesting. We are not familiar with Jazz, but we still enjoyed its history and into the music very much. Before this lecture, we never realize that how dark and hard the development of Jazz was. 

Laura and Ivy were surprised by the history, development, and spirit of Jazz -freedom. Ivy said that although there are no lyrics, the beautiful melody is enough to convey their optimistic spirit. At the same time, Laura considered that the music never makes people bored which indicates black people's attitude toward freedom. 

We all agreed that Jazz is amazing and respectful. I (Neo) was surprised by the stiffness of black people and also impressed by: Black musicians regarded their music seriously even though white people laughed at them, seeing them as a joke and a clown. The situation of these respectful musicians just like the saying goes: Never give up on something you really want. It’s difficult to wait, but it’s more difficult to regret. 

“I agree with the black people's spirit towards life. But I disagree with the discrimination about black people.” Ivy said. 

I(Neo) admired the musical talents and creativity of black people. However, we were sorry and sad about the dark history of the enslavement of blacks in the early United States and the oppression of blacks. 

We all liked the lecture and its style. I(Neo) am willing to listen to more jazz music then introduce them to my friends. It was difficult to remember all the names of these amazing musicians, but I especially remember Louis Armstrong who was a key person in jazz and made the music worldwide. 

Ivy mentioned that the speech was in chronological order. The development history of jazz was sorted out, and a series of representative authors were listed and clear which was organized and easy to attract the audience's attention. In conclusion, we enjoyed the lecture so much, as well as learned so much. Not only to get to know more about Jazz but also to remind ourselves always to think more and deeper.

 

In addition, what surprised us most is that We even did not know so many types of feedback, and when a teacher or your classmate gave you a feedback，he or her needs to consider a lot of things because he or she has to guarantee the effect of the feedback and wants you to get a lot of useful information or suggestions. And then you can improve your essay or article, etc. So during the feedback, the feedback giver will pay more attention to it. 

 

Besides, we committed that most of us want to have personal feedback from teacher every time when we submit our writing task. However, sometimes the teacher didn't have enough time to give every students the personal feedback. Therefore we think it is not appropriate to depend on the personal feedback by the teacher all the time. We also have to learn from the peer feedback Because there is always a student or some students that are higher than you and you can learn a lot of useful tips from them.
