The short story will focus on the life of a woman. We decided to focus on the life of a woman because we can address a few topics with her such as a lower wage for women. This woman is part of the workforce working as a cleaning lady. She is a single mother to a boy after her husband suffered a spine injury in construction and sadly died. She then decided to get healthcare which is very expensive. One day after years of constant exposure to chemical she begins to have issues with her lungs and she goes to the doctor. The doctor constantly prescribes her drugs and tells her she will be fine as long as she takes the meds. Many of the medicines are expensive and the healthcare does not fully cover them. She needs lung transplant but it is very expensive and her insurance does not cover it. She is in desperate need so she decides to write a letter to her parents asking for help. We did this to connect both of our genres.

The American health care system is a work in progress. Over the years people have been having many issues with it, but no one has ever done much to help with it. This system is too focused on gaining money from the people, instead of helping improve their health. Many times people are not even able to access help because of conditions they may have like heart disease, and diabetes. Other times doctors may prescribe medicine just to do it because they get more money from prescribing medicine to people. The American health care system has many great examples to follow after and needs to lay down strict rules to keep its people with accessible health care, and most importantly healthy.

Dear Parents,

I know I haven't talked to in a while since I moved out with Henry. It's been really hard these past few years without him. After his death, I thought really hard and I figured I needed health insurance for me and my son. I don't want to end up like he did I don't want my son to grow up without a mother either. He's been doing pretty good so far.

The healthcare makes me feel safe but the cost is too much for me especially with the whole gender wage gap and since I have to pay for two without the help of Henry. I am behind with the rent, health care bill, and with my hospital bill that cost me thousands for the medicine that I don't even think works, as well as the surgery that I have to get for my lungs. I'm scared and worried. If you guys can just spare as much as you can, it will be greatly appreciated. I already went to the bank for a loan and I can't pay them back.

I'm in massive Debt. I keep getting these pains in my lungs. I can't breathe properly, as I was looking for things that may be causing my pains, I came to the conclusion that it could be because of my job. The chemicals that I have to use while cleaning is entering my body and harming my lungs when I breathe it in. My job is the cause of my health issues. I have to keep going to that job in order to pay for the expenses it's causing me. It an endless cycle until I get a new job.

If it's not too much of a financial burden I would appreciate if you guy can spare us some money. I will pay you guys back as soon as I can, I promise. I will get a better a job, I will get another job, I will get more than one if I have too. I'm going to pay it back. No matter how long it takes.

                                                                                                                                    Thank You, Sincerely,

                                                                                                                                                    Your Daughter

I have been having the worst time of my life. My husband was just in an accident and now he is dead. And I am having issues paying bills. My son is having issues with his father being dead. If only we had insurance this situation would be easier. So, for this reason, I have decided to get some insurance for any future health complications my child or I will have. I believe the heavy price will definitely be worth its hefty price. It makes me sad that now that my husband is gone and I am the one who has to maintain everything and I cannot spend any time with my son. I worked as a cleaning lady for years so I will go back to it.

I have been at work for a few months now and I have forgotten how much effort it takes. My body is even having complaints. I have been having issues breathing and I get tired quickly. I have never been a smoker so I don't see why I am having issues with my lungs. I will definitely go check that out soon just to be safe. I went to the doctor and thanks to my health insurance I was able to get it without paying a large amount like I would have if I did not have any. He said I am having issues with my lungs due to the constant exposure to chemicals while cleaning. He prescribed me a few medicines and told me I would be fine. Unfortunately, some of these were expensive and insurance did not cover the full price.

I have still been having issues with my lungs and these expensive medicines are not cutting it. I decided to see the doctor again. He gave me some bad news he said my lungs are just not working and I need a lung surgery. However, the insurance won't cover it and I have to pay for the medicine that keeps me fine. Now I am having to pay 3 bills for 3 different things when all I should be paying is for my health insurance bills.

I am desperately looking for financial help but I just simply cannot find a way to sustain my family. I keep telling my son “I will be okay hun, don’t worry we can pay for this” But in reality, I’m running out of options and I need money. If America did not focus so much on making money off, of this health insurance I bought to “save money” I would be fine.

After a few weeks of my lung problems got worse, I have decided to step up for myself and really search for help or else I will die. I will send a letter to my parents asking for money because I need this lung surgery. The medicine did not work at all, as a matter of fact, it did not do anything and I think the doctor just prescribed it to me.
This situation has given me an important experience and lesson and I realized that we should be more informed on how health care works so that we cannot be abused. I hope after sending my parents the letter they will respond so that my child and I can finally rest after such a long time battling with issues alone after his father died. I will now be okay after paying thousands of dollars for something that should have been much less.

Healthcare is a necessary thing to have. Its important for keeping yourself and any other significant others healthy. Although that healthcare does help in many cases, many low-income people or families in America are suffering because of it. Healthcare is very expensive and for those low-income families, it's very hard to pay for it. These families a lot of the times even need it the most because of there jobs. Their jobs often have a lot of manual labor that leads to many injuries. These families often need it the most and they cant afford it. The American healthcare system should be helping the people that need it the most, not just the people that can afford it. America's healthcare has many flaws that need fixing and it needs to happen fast because people are in desperate need.

When thinking about healthcare the first thing that comes to mind is helping people but in many cases and in ways the man reasons its so bad because of the price of it. Some of the largest healthcare companies profit over 3.3 billion a year. According to the article titled, "How Much Does Health Insurance Cost Without A Subsidy?” Healthcare for the whole family whole cost around $833 a month which for a minimum wage family is far too much considering they would only be making around $110 to $200 dollars a month and $14.000 a year. For a single person on minimum wage, it would cost them around $321. This is still out of the personal budget, they would just not be able to afford this. This would cost around $4358 to $7983 a year. The price would also depend on the age of the person. The Article, “How Does the US Healthcare System Compare with Other Countries?” stated, that countries like Sweden basically free healthcare, people are only required to pay 80- 90 euros a year for healthcare. Some other countries take money from paychecks to contribute to the nations overall health insurance, allowing for everyone to have affordable insurance.

According to “ Vox, 8 facts that explain whats wrong with American Healthcare." It states, that many doctors instead of getting paid for how well they do there work, the doctors are being paid by the amount of medication they prescribe to patients. The more medication the prescribe the more money they make. This affects the cost to the patient because the insurance won't pay for the medical bill. Patients would need to have to pay for it themselves. When doctors prescribe medicine they earn money from this. Whether its simple cough medicine or other medicines they will make some profit off of it. Unfortunately, according to Sarah Kliff from Vox doctors get paid by how much medicine they prescribe and many times they just prescribe medicine to get more money. This can result in dangers to people and results in high cost because there are no very good regulations. When doctors are paid like this they are really just focused on prescribing medicine and not really focusing on providing high-quality medical care.

Healthcare needs fixing and we can start by fixing these problems first. These are two of the biggest problems when looking at the effects of them. Healthcare is meant to help those in need and if it's not doing its job correctly and its actually hurting people in the process then it should be treated as a priority to fix it.
