Today we spent most of our class period playing. The photo to the left shows my groups activity we made based on our readings in chapter 7. My group came up with an idea but we were short on materials. So, what did we do? We built them! It was so fun and I look forward to solving problems like this in my future classroom. We used our hundreds, tens, and ones counters to have our classmates create greater than, less than, or equal to segments. We also made egg cartons as a tool for addition and multiplication. Me and Emmie had a lot of fun with our egg cartons and made it a friendly competition.

We began our class by reviewing number bonds and tape diagrams. The number bond worksheet I chose to make had a heart theme and was accessing my students skills in addition and subtraction of numbers 1-12. After the number bond activity we worked with our table partners to create tape diagrams. We used construction paper and markers to create dominos in order to represent our tape diagram. This has helped me bring out my creative side and differentiate our work from the work of our other classmates. Finally we worked with our tables to cone up with a greater than, less than, and equal to activity based on our continued review of chapter 7. We chose to use tiles in order to push students creativity as they can use the tiles to create different shapes and patterns. The best part of today was using our compass to make our own mandala. I actually chose to go home and finish my mandala seen on the right. I wish I took a after photo but that just means more play to come in the future when I do this activity again.

Today we worked on fractions. Fractions can be very scary and intimidating but I think I have finally conquered my fears. We used white boards to represent improper fractions and mixed numbers as well as fractions circles as seen in my photos. We then took out time In our class period to work on notes for chapter 14 in our textbook. I liked how this week we got to collaborate with our table mates because we all brought a different aspect into our note document.

Today was the day. We finally made it to Bugbee. We were given the opportunity to explore different stations that incorporated technology into the classroom. I surprised myself with all of the discoveries I made and found problem solving skills I did not know I had. Me and my partners were able to visit 6 stations. My favorite being the ozobots and the smart board. The smart board had a program that made learning interactive and "3D". The smart board has endless possibilities which is why I could have spent the whole time just exploring that station. I believe in the concept of hand-on learning so today was a special day for me. I look forward to integrating some of this technology into my own future classroom in order to push my students thinking.

Today was a jam packed day in EDUC 240. We spent the majority of our class period presenting our SDG projects. With the remaining time, me and my table mates read through and took notes on Chapter 18 of our textbook. After reviewing some key points and vocabulary we were assignment specific pages to focus in on to incorporate into our play. My group had angles and circumference. I chose to plot different rays on a number line and label them. I then used my protractor to measure each angle. I also had to look up a video on how to use a protractor to refresh my memory. We also grabbed the fraction circles in order to try to brainstorm how we can use them to represent angles. This was where we had a bit of a set back. Although this was not the correct approach we used it as a learning experience and quickly corrected our activity in order to align with our focus.

We began today's class analyzing SMP 3. This was the topic SMP that my table was assigned. I pulled up out video and gave a brief explanation to the class about what our SMP entails. Our video was funny, engaging, and had the perfect balance of not too long and not too short. After discussing/analyzing the video I came to the conclusion that students love to argue and teachers should use that to their advantage in healthy ways. Arguments help the students understand the topic effectively because they have to back up their statements with real, factual reasoning. When students are having viable arguments, the teacher should only step in when the students are getting out of control. There is nothing wrong with a healthy and educational argument. We then moved on to learning the importance of checklists and SMP 4. Place value is a huge part of elementary education that I never quite understood. After examining it closer, I feel confident in teaching place value to my own students. Finally we worked on fixing objectives/coming up with activity how we would teach based on interpreting data as you can see in the photos above. Today was very long but productive!

What a great start to today! Sand art takes me back to when I was a young and would go to a fair with my family. Me and my siblings would beg my parents to let us make our own sand art. This was a great meditative and relaxing activity to begin our class. It helped me wake up and ease into our class rather than jump right in. Once we began our work for the day, we focused on chapter 20 and talk of misconceptions, statistics, and graphical representations of statistics. I was so surprised to learn the difference between math and statistics today. We also did a fun activity with tape on the floor to represent how many miles our homes are from campus. I can see myself incorporating this activity in to one of my lessons in the future. Hopefully we can do the relaxing sand art in the future.

We began today's class by talking about symmetry and translation. We used markers to draw our own symmetrical images and used the help of a mirror to make symmetry of different objects around the room. We even used dot paper to help. I had never used dot paper before but it is something I enjoyed and want to make readily available for my students. We then moved on to discussing length, width and height and used what we could recall to build our own rectangular swimming pool blueprint. Next we discussed how to teach a ruler to students at higher grade levels. This involved talk of fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers. To end the day me and my table got to play with different math games. Me and Emmie played a game called the Iron Maiden. It seemed impossible at first but with a little help from youtube we figured it out. I left class wanting to buy one of my own! Finally my table made our own addition of fractions board game. I even made our die with just a pice of paper, scissors, and tape. Today was super hands-on and fun!
