Hey Pledges,

My name is Roshy Rajesh, I'm a 3rd year Marketing major. I pledged fall quarter of my first year at SU (FQ24), and I'm currently serving my second term as Chapter President.

My strongest advice is to take the process seriously, and put your best foot forward in any and all interactions with Brothers. The Brothers are well-connected on campus, and in the professional world, and can provide meaningful opportunities for you if you make a good impression on the Brotherhood during this process. That being said, we are also aware that mistakes will be made during the process, and we all certainly made mistakes as pledges ourselves. What matters, and what separates a successful pledge from an unsuccessful one is the reaction to the mistake. The pledging process is a series of learning opportunities, and mistakes are excellent learning opportunities, but they are to be learned from, not forgotten. The Brothers are here to aid that learning process, and every action we take is with that objective in mind. Approach each event with a genuine open-mindedness to learning, and you'll be successful.

Fun Fact: I'm the back-to-back intramural pickleball champion at Seattle University. (Beat Brother Cacatian in the final, btw).

Hi Pledges,

My name is Sam Holman, I'm a 3rd year Accounting and Finance double major from West Seattle, Washington. Having pledged SQ26, this is my first official quarter as a Brother of AKPsi. I served as the Pledge Class President in the previous Pledge Class.

The first thing I'd like to recommend is to be curious, always ask questions when you feel the need for clarification. Pledging is structured to mimic a professional environment in many ways. There's deliberate ambiguity, and it's up to you all to discern information in uncertain times. Our entire objective as brothers is to help you all understand your strengths, your weaknesses, and how they can play to your advantage in a professional setting.

My second piece of advice would be to work as a team rather than individually. The amount of work done throughout your pledging process can feel especially daunting if you don't have a shoulder to lean on. You will find while pledging that there are very rare times when you're not working with another person. Situations will feel much better if you feel comfortable working with your peers. Take the initiative to form real bonds with your fellow pledges, as I promise you that it will only benefit you in the future. Not only would I recommend study groups, or out of PC time to work together, I especially recommend you prioritize the friendship aspect of pledging, as you could end up forming bonds that last a lifetime.

I’d lastly encourage you to make mistakes, or I should say don’t be afraid of making them. The entire pledging process is a designated learning experience that encourages growth through failure. With that being said, give it your best shot! We all can’t wait to watch you grow over the coming weeks.

I'm always welcome to have a quick chat if you ever need advice along the way, or if you'd like me to look at your resume/cover letter.

A fun fact about me is that I'm training for the Seattle Marathon on November 29th!

Hello Pledges!

My name is Katie Miyasato, I am a fourth year Business Analytics Major. I pledged in the spring of my sophomore year, and I am currently the Vice President of Membership.

My advice: truly challenge yourself. The pledging process may feel daunting at times, but it really is what you make of it. Lean into the parts that push you, ask questions when you're unsure, and show up even on the days it feels hard. If you challenge yourself honestly, you will see real growth, not just in what you learn about this organization, but in what you learn about yourself.

Be curious. Use the resources around you, the brothers the alumni, each other. You don't have to figure everything out on your own, and asking for help is a strength, not a weakness.

And trust the process. Every task has a purpose, even the ones that seem menial. When something feels tedious or small, take a step back and ask what we're actually trying to teach you. There's almost always more beneath the surface than it looks like at first.

Just as important: remember that you're human. You will make mistakes. Everyone before you has. What separates a good pledge from a great one is how you respond when things don't go as planned. Own it, learn from it, and keep moving forward.

Fun Fact: My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Hi Pledges!

My name is Marley McMahon, I am a 2nd year Marketing and Management double major. I pledged spring quarter of my 1st year, and I am so excited to be a part of this journey with you.

My best advice to share with you is to believe in yourself and remember to be confident within each experience. It is so important to understand the feeling of being comfortable with the uncomfortable. Moments of challenge will happen but with that said, you will learn how to work with it rather around it. Keep in mind that growth comes from filling gaps, not changing who you are. Learn that allowing yourself to step outside of your comfort zone will result in growth. I highly encourage you to take each day with a growth mindset.

Along the way, you will build such strong connections with your peers that will certainly benefit your experience. Celebrate each other during accomplishments, and be inspired by those around you. You are here to develop both personal and team professionalism which you will find is very valuable. What you gain from pledging is shaped by the effort you put in. Be present, be engaged and hold yourself accountable in the most proactive way. Lastly, be open-minded. This is a learning process where you are not expected to be perfect. What matters most is your willingness to demonstrate growth.

Reach out when needed, we are here to support you. I look forward to getting to know you all!

Fun fact: I was named after Bob Marley

I am from Kirkland, Washington. I pledged in fall 2024.

My advice to the pledges is to take the feedback you receive and implement it throughout the process. The whole process is designed to improve your professional skills, and the more you internalize the feedback you receive the more successful you will be. Also, this process is very similar to actual professional experiences you will be involved with outside of school, like internships, job interviews, etc. So really put in a lot of effort into the process, you will thank yourself later. Also make sure to network with the brothers and leverage their experiences. Interview brothers who are already in positions you want to be in in the future, ask how they got there and use that advice. Finally, have fun and good luck!

Connect with me on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/dominicjabbour/

My fun fact is im nice at ping pong.

I pledged last Fall season during my first quarter here at SU, in which I became the Pledge Class Secretary. I have now been serving as the Vice President of Communications since last Winter quarter.

Take this process as a training ground where you get to fall, overcome, and succeed in realizing just how much you can grow beyond your comfort zones ––in professionalism, public speaking, and staying collected under high-stress situations. This is a network where you get to rely on your pledge mates and, in turn, reciprocate your dedication toward a shared goal of improving yourselves. Let this be a community that fosters bonds lasting beyond the halls of this university.

Times may be difficult throughout the process. Help each other, share your knowledge, and be there for each other as we will be there for you. Refrain from taking feedback personally. With that said, this is my first quarter as a Brother.

My advice: Firstly, this pledging process will push you, and it's important to take a step back at times to reorganize and keep going. With that said, it's also important to make sure that you are taking the time to manage not only pledging, but also not be so hyperfocused that you leave out time for academics and other parts of your life. Try to keep things as organized as possible. I highly recommend putting down dates and planning ahead for upcoming events, academic work, and etc.

Don't forget that what you get out of this process is contingent on what you put in. This means pushing yourself to improve. This can be done in many ways, but especially by taking constructive criticism while sorting through advice that works for you and doesn't.

And lastly, although we may seem scary, we all want to see you succeed, so please don't be scared to reach out to any of us when you need it, and good luck!

Connect with me on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/fatima-drammeh-a4a8a6303/

Fun Fact: My favorite Book is " And the Mountains Echoed," by Khaled Hosseini

I’m a 4th-year Computer Science major with a minor in Business Administration, and I’m set to graduate at the end of this quarter. I pledged in spring 2026!

My biggest advice to you is to trust the process and ask for help when you need it!! Sometimes the pledging process can feel overwhelming, and it’s totally fair to feel like you need a break. In those moments, remind yourself that all of the Brothers have gone through the same process and understand what you’re experiencing. Don’t be afraid to reach out to them for help, or lean on your pledge mates who are actively going through the same thing as you!

A lot of the process is about supporting each other, staying positive, and being resilient. You’re being pushed to grow a lot in a short amount of time, so it’s bound to feel overwhelming at times. This is a learning experience and an opportunity to develop and strengthen your skills, so don’t take this moment for granted. Throughout the process, try to approach each experience with an open mind and a willingness to learn. You may be challenged in ways that push you outside of your comfort zone, but those moments can also be some of the most valuable opportunities for growth. Be receptive to feedback, learn from your mistakes, and don’t be afraid to ask questions when you need help.

And lastly, don’t focus solely on just getting through these seven weeks. What you decide to put into this process will ultimately determine what you get out of it. Be intentional with your effort, stay engaged, and make an effort to learn from the people around you. The connections you build, the lessons you learn, and the skills you develop can continue to benefit you long after these seven weeks are over.

Fun Fact: I’ve had eight leg surgeries!

Hi everyone! My name is Rebekah Lee, and I’m a fourth-year student studying Marketing with a minor in Global Business. I pledged my first year at SU (SQ25).

I decided to pledge Alpha Kappa Psi because I wanted to grow both professionally and personally. I was looking for an environment where I could challenge myself, develop my leadership and communication skills, and build genuine, lasting connections with a group of driven and supportive individuals. Through this experience, I’ve learned that success in AKPsi comes down to the effort you’re willing to put in.

If I could give advice to myself before pledging, I would say to fully commit and give it everything you have. The process can be challenging at times, but it’s incredibly rewarding, and you truly get out what you put into it. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone is where the most growth happens.

A fun fact about me is that I’ve gone bungee jumping in Whistler!

When you fall I want you to get back up with a better attitude. You will get out of this process what you put into it. It all depends on you. What separates you from the rest is your mindset when faced with unknown circumstances.

Remember that we are all students just like you; we have all gone through this process aswell.

Hi Pledges!

My name is Taylor Cochran, and I am a second-year Business and Law major. I pledged in Fall 2025, and I currently serve as the Director of Membership.

I know it is easier said than done, but my biggest piece of advice is to push yourself further than you ever have before. Pledging is a great opportunity to learn more about yourself, both personally and professionally. Try things that may be outside of your comfort zone, take on a leadership role, ask questions, and be open to learning from everyone around you. There is so much to gain from this experience, and the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.

Another piece of advice that I would give is to take every opportunity to learn and grow. Whether that comes from your pledge classes, the brothers, or experiences outside of pledging, listen to the advice that people give you and take the time to learn from it. Know that we have all gone through this process before, so the advice we share comes from our own experiences and is meant to help you succeed. Don’t hesitate to ask questions or reach out when you need help.

Lastly, be yourself and enjoy this process. Pledging can be overwhelming at times, but try not to get so caught up in everything you have to do that you forget to enjoy the experience. The relationships you build and the lessons you learn throughout this process will stay with you way longer than your time as a pledge. Try your best, trust yourself, and stay positive. I am excited to watch you all grow within this process.

Add me on LinkedIn! www.linkedin.com/in/taylor-k-cochran

Fun Fact: My nephew was born on my sister’s half birthday this year (June 30th), and I have two cats; Dublin and Paris.

Hey Pledges,

My name is Nikil Suvarna. I'm a sophomore studying Finance, and I pledged AKPsi in Fall '25. I also currently serve as the Director of Marketing.

I joined AKPsi to push myself out of my comfort zone and get more involved at Seattle U. Coming into college, one of my main goals was to meet new people, build my confidence. AKPsi gave me all of that. Throughout pledging, I was regularly put in situations that challenged me, presenting in front of groups, going through interviews, working with my pledge class, networking with Brothers, and getting more comfortable talking to people I'd never met.

The biggest thing I took from pledging was confidence. There were moments that felt stressful or uncomfortable, but those often taught me the most. Some of my favorite pledging memories came from random moments with my pledge class that had nothing to do with a requirement, and more about building a bond with my PC.

Lean on your pledge class, too. Some weeks you'll be juggling school, AKPsi, work, clubs, and the rest of your life, and you don't have to figure it all out alone. Help each other out, communicate, and make sure everyone feels included. They're going through the same experience as you, and they can become some of your closest friends. Seven weeks might feel long right now, but it goes by much faster than you'd expect.

Most importantly, don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Talk to people even when you're nervous, volunteer for things, ask questions, and take advantage of every opportunity AKPsi offers. You'll get to have fun and make the most of these next seven weeks!

Fun Fact About Me: I love Summers Over by Jordana and TV Girl!

The benefits of this process will far outweigh any hardship you face within it. It will change the way you approach your professional life, truly. By leaning into public speaking, resume building, presentation planning, and brotherhood as a whole, you will see yourself mold into a reliable, organized, and confident professional. Use all the resources you have available to you, most importantly, your fellow pledges and us Brothers! All of us are happy to lend a helping hand and support you through any questions you may have about any aspect of these next few weeks (we have experienced it; trust us). Allow yourself to have fun and build friendships amongst fellow pledges, and make the most of these new people, experiences, and tasks meant to fuel your growth.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and try! I’m technically in my third year because I completed Running Start in high school, but I’m on track to graduate this June!

I’m fairly involved on campus and enjoy all of the communities I’m part of. This term, I serve as your Warden. Outside of AKPsi, I’m the Fundraising Director for Women in Business and the Marketing Director for the Albers Investment Group. If you’re ever interested in learning how to get more involved on campus, I'm happy to chat with you.

I pledged AKPsi in Fall 2025 because I wanted to improve my networking, interviewing, communication, and professional skills, but I ended up gaining much more from the process than I expected. It pushed me to become more comfortable with feedback, making mistakes, and putting myself in situations where I wasn’t always confident yet. It also played a huge role in giving me the confidence to become more involved on campus and pursue the leadership roles I hold now.

One of the biggest things I learned throughout the pledging process is that preparation matters. I genuinely believe you can accomplish almost anything you want if you prepare for it. At the same time, preparation only gets you so far if you aren’t also willing to make mistakes, ask questions, seek feedback, and learn from the people around you.

My advice to you is to really take advantage of the people in this chapter. If you admire a brother or fellow pledge for something they do well, ask them about it. Talk to as many people as you can, stay open to feedback, and don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.

I’m excited to get to know all of you, and please feel free to reach out if you ever have questions, want to grab coffee, or need some advice.

Fun fact: I used to teach dance!

I’m from Bremerton, WA, and I pledged ΑΚΨ SQ26!

A little bit about my journey: I switched into a business major after my first year at SU, and honestly, I felt like I was behind when it came to developing my business skills. I wanted to find ways to improve myself professionally, especially when it came to interviewing and building the confidence to tell my own stories in an effective way. I wanted to challenge myself, learn from others, and become more confident in how I present myself and my experiences.

If there’s one piece of advice I could give you all during your pledging process, it would be to lean into the things that scare you the most. I know it’s easier said than done, but sometimes the things that intimidate us the most are the same things that help us grow the most. Think ΑΚΨ as a lower-stakes environment where you can challenge yourself, make mistakes, and learn from them before entering the professional world. When you’re going through the pledging process, treat every opportunity like it’s an interview for your dream job! Whether it’s public speaking, networking, interviewing, or simply putting yourself out there, take advantage of every opportunity to practice and improve. The brothers are here to help you develop the skills you want to work on, so don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek feedback, and step outside your comfort zone. At the end of the day, whatever you put in, is what you’ll get out.
