We are pleased to share our comprehensive plans for the upcoming leadership transition in the crucial areas of Facilities and Security Services as Jim Pollack prepares to retire. To ensure this transition is as smooth and effective as possible, we have engaged The Stone House Group, a consulting firm with over 25 years of experience supporting clients with facilities stewardship needs. Their unique and impressive background in operations and planning within both private independent schools and higher education institutions makes them an excellent partner for our search and transition process.

The Stone House Group will not only conduct the search for Jim’s successor but will also provide full-time interim leadership on campus. This arrangement ensures there will be no gap in operations or leadership between Jim’s departure and the onboarding of the new hire.

Beginning this week, Ken Shultes, Senior Advisor with The Stone House Group, will be on campus to work closely with Jim and absorb as much institutional knowledge as possible before Jim leaves at the end of the month. Ken will serve as the interim Director of Facilities and Security Services and live on campus in The Laurels while The Stone House Group conducts the search for our next Director. 

Ken brings a wealth of experience in campus operations, having previously served as the head of Facilities Management, Strategic Planning, and Sustainable Operations at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Known for his dedication to facilities optimization and community engagement, Ken is recognized for his positive energy and thoughtful leadership style, which will be invaluable during this period of transition. He is looking forward to meeting and working with you. 

Although it is impossible to replace Jim and the leadership and commitment that he provided to our community, we are confident that our plans for moving forward are in the best short- and long-term interest of the Madeira community.
