Birutė :)

I'm Birutė from Lithuania. My name is very lithuanian, national, that's why for foreigners it's a big challange to spell it :) There is some different storys about etymology of my name. First is from the history of Lithuania and tells about quirk Birutė, who lived in the Palanga resort by the Baltic see and was devoted to the pagan gods. The other story says, that it is from the lithuanian word ,,to crumble" and the third one says that this name means ,,fine, someone, who is fine built". For me the most acceptable is the first story :)

My first name is quite simple to track: it comes from the word "christian" which means a person of Christian faith. The female form is Christina, and Tiina is the Finnish shorter form of it.
My parents were not so much thinking about the origin of the name when they chose it, I think that they wanted matching names for their two daughters: Tuula and Tiina, sounds nice! (Mother also told me that as a little girl she had her own pet hen called Tiina... what should I think of that!?!)
In school I didn't like my name. It was very popular and at one time we were five Tiinas in the class. Many of us got nicknames because of that, and I didn't really enjoy my nickname either, but it stuck with me for a really long time. Some of my best friends still use it.

My name NATALIJA comes from the Latin word "birth". I was born on Sunday, it is like the beginning of a new stage the birth, and my name corresponds to the time of my coming into this world. I come from a Lithuanian Russian family, so my name can be heard more often in Russia. My mother told me that she liked the poems of Alexander Pushkin, so I was named after the poet's wife, Natalia. I have two name days - July 27th and December 1st, which commemorates Saint Natalia, a symbol of marital love and loyalty.

My name IRA is a short form of the name Irina and was a popular name in Russia. I was born in Ukraine, but grew up in Germany. My parents have many friends with the name Irina and I don't like it very much because it is soo popular. In Latin Ira means "anger", but I prefer the Indian and Israelian meaning of "earth" and "watchful";-) Irina comes from Slovakia and means "peaceful" what I also like. My mother chose this name after her best friend. My family and friends always call me Ira, that's why I prefer the short form.
