When the Nazi took over they forced Otto out of his spice business simply because he was Jewish! He had put furniture and other supplies in the hiding spot before hiding he had even asked his nonJewish friends, to take care of the shop and their family while they were in hiding. On Monday, July 6th, 1942 they went into hiding in the building just above Mr.Franks spice shop it was hidden behind a bookcase. Otto Frank was the only survivor out of all of the Jews. 
While Anne was at 
Camp Meip watched her diary but when she found out she had died she gave the journal to Otto, later in the years of her death her journal was found and published. when it was published she became was most famous for her touching diary entries. she became one of the most famous writers in US history.
