Major Depression is described by feelings of sadness or emptiness, a loss of interest, loss of energy, difficulty concentrating and difficulty holding conversations or difficulty making decisions that were once easy to make. Suicidal thoughts or intentions may also be present.

Etiology:

 -Biological and environmental factors.

-A deficiency in serotonin can cause depression.

Situational factors

For example: lack of support system, stress, illness in self or loved one, etc.

Treatment:

 - Prozac, Paxil, Wellbutrin, and Zolaft.

Prozac is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) this means that it helps prolong the mood lifting effects of serotonin by preventing it from being reabsorbed back into nerve cells in the brain.
