In the earlier years children needed the assistance of adults to read everything, but as they get older they become more independent. In the video the mixed kid seemed to be ahead of his level in reading compared to the black kid. Now when I think back when I was a kid my teachers did use a lot of big words. I noticed in the video how the teacher used big words such as resolution and setting.
