This is because he started off as a quiet character who didn't contribute much to the play, but as the play went on Henry started to come out of his shell and talk more. He even shares his thoughts and ideas on the Vietnam war at the time, as well as the leftist party.

This is shown at the beginning of the play he expresses his loyalty to Lucy (girlfriend) and that he is not as passionate about her views on free love. Throughout the entire play he changes his feeling towards the patients as well as free love, and in the end cheats on his girlfriend. Becoming hypocritical to his views on free love.
