The parts of our identity that I think are chosen by ourselves are the things we like or enjoy doing that feel like it belongs to what we think we are, such as, beliefs, personality, emotions, experiences and maybe social roles, because it can change and evolve quicker, making us have personal growth throughout our lives. While cultural context, family or feedback from other people might be things of our identity shaped by society due to the stereotypes and perceptions which could create even a negative effect on our identity.

By looking at just one part, we don’t see the full picture of struggles or strengths, for example a woman of color. If we only focus on her being a woman, we might talk about sexism she faces, but ignore the racism she also experiences. On the other hand, if we only focus on her being a person of color, we might ignore how gender also affects the kind of discrimination she faces.
