There has to be some kind of balance between feeling safe have being in a mindset to tackle the challenge. Not ensuring some kind of resistance is challenging the baseline of what school is suppose to achieve.

Sometimes the ideas will be beautiful; sometimes they’ll be ugly; sometimes they’ll look better on one person than another."

If you develop your own sense of self identity, it could transform you as a person to become more transformative within different cultures and ideas.

Identity within the text: "When large majorities of college students report pressure to self-censor, this is what they’re talking about. Surveys suggest that the principal reason students keep controversial ideas to themselves is to avoid the disdain not of their professors but of their peers."

This avoidance of distain from their peers can effectively push students away from voicing their own opinion and forming the little bit of controversy that causes students to think critically about their opinion and the facts.

Identity within the text: "they give no fair warning of what’s forbidden, leading to such absurdities as stopping a student from passing out copies of the Constitution on Constitution Day; or investigating a professor for the sin of stopping to watch a “Back the Blue” rally..."

If Academic institutions allow this, it will force people not to explore outside of their initial think pattern, leading the institution to become stagnant or even linear within its innovation.

I quite agree that schools should punish those who disrupt the educational process, no matter how noble-sounding their reasons. Interrupting classes, making noise so that others can’t hear speakers,
blocking access, taking over buildings — all of these are less acts of dissent than
assertions of raw power."

These violent acts could potentially block other students from learning and taking their own side. This could be seen as oppressive and the opposite of what learning can and should be.
