Teacher Instructions:

1. Students will be creating a monster using paint and black construction paper.

2. PREP: On black construction paper, use a marker or pen that will show up and trace out the horns (of various types; as shown in the example). Trace on white paper the eyes/mouth Then, cut sponges into strips.

3. Set out the following supplies on a table: White paper, the traced black construction paper, scissors, the sponges in strips, glue sticks, paint, and paper plates. Instruct students to grab one piece of white paper, the traced black construction paper of their choice, the matching, traced, white paper, 1 sponge strip, scissors, a glue stick, and 1 paper plate for their table (1 plate per 2 students).

4. Go around and ask students what color(s) that they would like to paint with and pour some onto their paper plates.

5. Instruct students to dip their spounge in paint and stamp the sponge on the white piece of paper to form a circle. Students may use as many colors as they would like. While waiting for the paint to dry, have students cut out the white and black traced of their choice to form the mouth, eyes, and horns of the monster.

6. Instruct students to glue on the white and black mouth, eyes, and horns onto the white piece of paper using their glue stick.

7. Wait for all parts to dry!

2. Project the lyrics of the song on the board so students can see.

3. Sing the song as a class!

• Large, Medium, & Small Pumpkins (real or faux)

• Brown piece or carpet or fabric

• Green pieces of paper (cut into squiggly lines or the vines)

• "PUMPKIN PATCH" sign

• "PICK A PUMPKIN" sign

Teacher Instructions:

1. {Set up} Use an old cabinet or a student desk and add bins with pumpkins (real or faux). Use a play cash register and add a "PAY HERE" sign.

2. Next, add a Pumpkin sign as well as a list of pumpkin prices: Large: $5, Medium: $3, Small: $1. Use 3-4 bins with the different size pumpkins.

3. Then add a carpet or brown piece of fabric to act as soil. Cut out squiggly green pieces of paper to act as pumpkin vines. Add a variety of Pumpkins to the brown fabric. Add a "Pumpkin Patch" and "Pick A Pumpkin" signs.

4. Students will take turns being a customer and the cashier or working behind the "counter". They will be assigned into two groups: Group 1 & Group 2.

5. Group 1 will be the customers. Explain what a customer is and what they do. Group 1 will receive $7 (fake money).

6. Group 2 will be working the cash register. Explain what that role means.

7. After 20 minutes of play, groups will switch roles.

Part 1:

1. Make the Spider sets: Cut out 10, large, black circles, , a small black circle, eyes-shaped circles, and a white circle for the number at the top.

2. Glue the big circle with the small black circle to create the base. Next, glue on the eyes. Then, draw on the eyes, mouth, and number each circle 1-10. Each set will have numbers 1-10.

3. Students will put the number of close pins into the spiders that correlate to the number on the spider.

2. Explain to students that we will watch the video 3 times. The 1st time we're are going to listen and watch the video. The 2nd and 3rd times we watch, we will say the lyrics and dance.

• Connector Blocks

1. Make the play mats by printing them out and laminating them. Set 1 mat out on every student's desk (1 per desk), as they will be working in partner groups. Put out a set of connector blocks as well, for each pair.

2. Read "There was an old lady who swallowed a bat" out loud to the class. (The words on the sight reading mat correlate with words in the book.)

3. The first word on the mat is "spider". Read the word aloud and clap to syllables to show an example. The students will then, as partners, put the number of connector blocks that correlate with the number of syllable that the word has. Read the next word aloud and have the class clap the syllables of the word. Then, have each pair place the correlating connector blocks on the sight word mat.

4. Continue this process until the mat is fully complete.

2. Orange Food coloring

3. Bow tie pasta

4. Black paint or spray paint

5. A large bin

Teacher Instructions:

1. Make the rice: Add 10 cups of rice to a different container then the sensory bin and add 4 cups of water. Then, add orange food coloring and let sit for an hour. Drain the water and allow for the rice to dry.

2. Next, spray paint or paint the bow tie pasta black and allow for it to dry.

3. All the rice into your sensory bin and add the bow ties on top. Mix them together. Students will find the "bats" in the sensory bin.

1. (Create a map for students.) Use a black piece of paper with different sections labeled with where each type of candy is located. {Depending on the layout of the playground}.

2. Make sure to make candy choices that are appropriate to your class's allergy restrictions.

3. Provide students with a Halloween bag or basket. Instruct students to use the map to find each candy.

• Contact Solution

• Clear Glow-in-the-dark paint

• Containers to take slime home in

• Disposable cups

• Green and/or orange food coloring

1. Set up a table with supplies. First, pour in equal amounts of glue into the cups (1 cup for each student). Then mix in 2 TBS of glow-in-the-dark glue. Next, make cups with 2 squirts of contact solution. For example, if you have 10 students make 10 cups of the glue mixture and make 10 cups of the contact solution. Finally, set out popsicle sticks to mix the slime.

2. Have a section of students come up one at a time to grab one cup of the glue mixture, one cup of contact solution, and one popsicle stick.

3. Go around to each student's desk and ask what color they want. Then, add two drops of food coloring of their choice.

4. Instruct students to mix their glue mixture with the food coloring. Then tell students to mix in their contact solution, until the slime forms.

5. Finally, turn the lights off to see the slime glow-in-the-dark!
