Everyday there will be a moment where you will need to find a trash can, this can be from eating something from a wrapper, spilling a drink or even blowing your nose. In this neighborhood photo essay I walked around Goose Hollow and the PSU area next to that. During the walk the area felt familiar at the beginning but new at the end. While I have walked up one of the hills in the area a few times I did not know the name of the area or its history. I chose to take pictures of trash cans because they are a basic need in the public and seeing how they vary or if they stay consistent. Near populated areas the trash cans were kept closed to prevent people from opening them, and taking things out. However, the non popular areas had trash cans left completely open with no problem taking things out. While one of the photos is an untraditional trash container I believe it has the same purpose. While the box is overflowing with trash it is in the most secluded area compared to the other ones and was the only place to put trash in. The main takeaway from this space is the trash cans change around the popularity of the area. Something that stood out to me was how different they can be. We should care about this photo essay because each trash can has the same function but has different intentions/purpose.
