Similarities

Nya and Salva are both hard working. It states in the book, " Before Salva had started going to school, he had helped look after the entire herd, and his younger brother as well" (Parks 3). It also states in the book, " The doughnut went on her head first, followed by the heavy container of water, which she would hold in place with one hand. With the water balanced on her head, and her foot sore from the thorn, Nya knew that going home would take longer than coming had" (Parks 14-15).
They are also both tired on their journeys. I believe this because it states in the book, " Each minute of walking in that arid heat felt like an hour. Every breath Salva took seemed to drain strength rather than restore it." (Parks 22). Salva was very tired, and so was Nya. I can infer this as it states in the back of the book," She walks 8 hours every day" (Parks back of book), You most likely think she is very tired.

Differences

Nya and Salva also have some differences. For starters, Salva doesn't have to walk 8 hours every day to get water for his family, unlike Nya. Salva is from a good family with money, and they have nice food and water, so they don't have to walk just to get water. With Nya, however, she is from a family that moves often, and doesn't have a lot of money. She needs to walk, since there is no water near her, especially clean water, she has to walk 8 hours to a pond for her family. Also, Salva gets to go to school, unlike Nya, as she needs to go get water and stay at home with her mother and siblings. Since she is a girl, she has to stay at the house, and take care of them. Salva, however gets to go to school, which he is thankful for, and is able to learn stuff. Those are just some differences between Nya and Salva.

These similarities and differences are important to the story, as they can help the reader understand the characters a little bit more. For example, since Nya and Salva have a lot of similarities, the reader can relate them better to the story. People can see how two different people, in two different time zones, can relate, and have similarities to one another. You can also compare these similarities and differences in the real world, not just the book. For example, Salva has to walk in the hot desert or a long time, and he uses perseverance to get through it. Nya has to walk 8 hours every day to get water, and her motivation is her family. You can use this in the real world because you can always get through something with just a little bit of perseverance, you don't have to complain, because it could always be worse. That's how it connects to the world and to each other

There are a few punctuation marks out of place or missing.
Reading Standard 2: GREAT attempts at analysis. I can see how you are trying to connect to the real world.
