A small state in the North East part of India called Nagaland. 

Why/ What motivated my move? 
After our wedding I had to move to Sydney, Australia as a new bride. Because it was a choice and decision made then by my  husband who decided to migrate to Australia. 

Connection:What do I miss about my previous home?
My immediate families, extended families, the close knitted family culture. The organic way of living being able to source organic food & fresh produce everyday locally without hurting the wallet. Cultural diversity, festivals & dance verse cuisines.  

Change: What is/ was the biggest change for you? 
Having to do everything with no help around the house, like a live in helper around the house to assist or a driver. DIY for almost everything.

Why: I moved for love as I met my partner in Bellingham and a long distance relationship for two plus years was challenging
Connection: -I miss my three best friends from Washington State.  -I also had to leave my cat with my parents as there were quarantine logistics that would have been too stressful for my cat.  Thankfully my parents adopted him but that still was not a easy decision as my cat (named Godzilla) was also the love of my life. -I miss my parents and sharing special occasions and holidays with them
Change: Language, I first found Australian english was spoken very fast and with lots of Australian slang so it was a lot harder to understand then I imagined.
-I became more resilient to change.  I have lived in Japan during my childhood years and then moved to the US in High School so I thought moving to Australia was going to be a breeze.  However, I underestimated the challenge. I was in my adult years and no longer going to school and I also wasn't able to work for the first four months in Sydney due to Visa requirements so it was really hard to make friends.  However, I learned to step out of my comfort zone and worked really hard making connections in other ways and once I got my working visas I branched out and networked intensely. I’m originally from Rochester, New York, but spent some my childhood in Hong Kong and Madrid, Spain. 

Why: Love! I met my wife Pip when she was on exchange to the United States. After I finished university, we got engaged so I could move to Canberra to be with Pip. 

Connection: I miss my family and friends the most. It’s hard moving to the other side of the world where you don’t know many people. 

Change: Language was a big change. Australians love slang and jargon. Why- I always loved to travel, having lived overseas for two years previously, so when my boyfriend graduated uni and said there were jobs in Canberra opening for graduates, I strongly encouraged him to apply. He got the job, so we moved! I was 23, he was 22. We only thought it would be temporary but when I finished studying, I got a permanent job too, so we stayed. 

Connection- I miss my mum, dad and huge extended family as I’m very close to them. I also miss the beach as I went there everyday to walk, swim or surf (depending on the swell and currents). 

Change- the biggest change was knowing no one when I arrived in Canberra (except James). Also, seeing the bush everywhere! Where: I migrated from Mumbai, India to Melbourne,  Australia in 2010 along with my husband, Kishore.
Why: Kishore got an opportunity to work for a leading Australian bank in Melbourne so I left my job in India and came to Melbourne. I got a job in Melbourne in few months and was happy with  the work life balance here. Compared to all the places we both have worked so far like India and USA we like the work culture in Australia and also the cultural diversity which made us to settle permanently. 
Connection: I miss being with my family and friends on special occasions.  Also feel sometimes that my kids miss the bonding with extended family as we get to meet them very rarely.
Change: Firstly language, It was hard to understand the slang and jargon.

Where: I migrated from Kenya to Australia

Why: I got an opportunity to stay in Australia from a student/spouse visa to a permanent residence then eventually I became a citizen and officially Australia became my 2nd home as I fell in love with the country as a whole and everything in it and knew this was my future home and for my children too

Connection: I miss the extended family

Change: The biggest change was the weather as I came in August 2012 during winter and I had weather shock as this is the first time I experienced COLD and also the other biggest change was generally culture shock

He had already lived in Switzerland and England working as a Hairdresser, then moved back to Germany. After that he came to Australia to explore. 

He missed his family and German food.
The biggest changes  for him was the food and the Bush because he came from damp forests in Germany.

The hardest challenge for him was that the seasons were opposite and he was on the other side of the world!

When he got here he liked the beach, opposite weather and cutting the hair of the Opera Hose architect!
