What have I observed so far about the importance of trust between the students and the teacher in an ELL classroom?

Trust is critical in an ELL classroom. In order to be successful students must feel confident, valued, and represented culturally. These important outcomes are all the result of a trusting relationship between the student and the teacher. When students trust that they are valued and safe, they will open up and begin to succeed in the curriculum. These ideas are directly from "The Vision of the English Language Learner".

We have read government and board policy documents, listened to scholars like Stephen Krashen and we have reflected on our own experiences in the classroom. We have learned about language acquisition theory, BICS & CALP, Translanguaging Pedagogy. We have also found resources that can help up with lesson planning.
