The moment paintball starts find cover immediately. Once you find cover try to peek so you can return fire. Peeking is also tough as players wait for you to do just that. So how do you know when to move?

In paintball you can easily see where paintballs land in the ground or on obstacles by a splash of bright paint. The first step is counting five seconds without a paintball hitting near you. Then you use the distance formula(X being seconds Y being height above the ground where the ball strikes a wall or obstacle) above to figure out where the nearest paintballs are hitting. This lets you know three things: are they striking near you, an estimate to where your opponent is, and if it is safe to move or not. If paint balls or your opponent is to close to you, wait another five seconds and try again, if they are far enough way. By using math in there heads they are able to tell how much they need to bend by imagining angles in there heads. 

For instance, a paint ball player needs to lean 50 degrees outward, but he will fall over if he goes past 45 degrees. Now he knows to adjust his footing so he can still stand up and peek out. This is one of the hardest tasks for paint ball players, not because the math is hard, but because every part of your body sticking out of cover is a risk of being shot with a paintball. Using “Step 1” find a good place to find cover. Then using “Step 2” determine what angles you need to properly return fire from. After that, repeat both steps as needed when you are about to be flanked or have no line of fire.
