Also, she trained her children to always remember who they were and where they came from. In my mother’s words ‘ even when you make a mistake, never back down, keep working at it, until you get it right.’ That mantra has followed me all through my life. For instance, I always put passion into any task and this reflects in my work in advocacy and activism. I will keep pushing for social change especially for gender equity. It may come slow and may take time but one day total change will surely take place in our present world where there are oppressive systems and post-colonial legacies. 

First, I would recommend to anyone in advocacy and activism to keep believing in their causes in order to make a change in society and most importantly don’t listen to the naysayers. Keep pushing for positive change until it is achieved. 

Second, don’t be a performative ally but a productive ally. For example, you can be productive by taking meaningful actions that are pure and genuine and not actions for personal gains grounded in a capitalist mindset. As a feminist fellow and to individuals who are taking action to dismantle misogyny, stereotypes and gender based violence; we may face obstacles that could impede our work but it is crucial we keep believing in an equitable world we hope to see, especially for the future generations.

Third,  all these actions we are taking are not in vain but for a good cause.
