interesting question, it seems the point is that 'simple' transcription (of interviews etc.) can be thought of as a political act that does not offer 'raw' data. Inscription, is more the notes, jottings and codes researchers use to capture what's going on in the right now. I've attached a few external links.

It's any wonder ethnography is such male-dominated method when female ethnographers are described to aspiring researchers as lacking 'reason', being 'women centred', 'mythologiz[ing]', being driven by the need to assert 'self worth' and 'self image' or the need to achieve disciplinary equality as 'honorary males'. Not to mention those 'antiphallocentric' feminists. Interesting to read a variety of accounts, but surely there are foundational texts that recognise the incredible contributions of women in such an inaccessible field. Risky when the readings aren't being critically discussed in tutorials, and when content is being taken as 'law' for the purpose of in-class tests.
