The man gives Ping a plan to find the brocade. Ping makes the journey to the Palace, following the instructions given to him by the old man. Ping goes on a journey to the Palace and meets Princess Ling. Ping returned the old man’s horse to him and brings the brocade back to his mother. Ping returns the brocade to his mother. He had no friends besides the nurse because everyone thought he was a nerd. (Which he kind of was.) He had heard about this abandoned house on Willow Avenue that everyone talked about. The nurse told him that there was a girl locked up in there because her father wouldn't let her out. She also said it was magical. So one day, Brendan went to explore it. Once he got inside, he saw a painting of the family, and it talked to him. The man with the skull told him that the girl was going to die.
So from that, I think that the theme of the story so far is even if things are scary or hard to do, you should not give up and give yourself a little challenge.
