It was difficult to put the students to practice speaking in real communicative situations.
The fact that we only had the chance to connect once a week left little space to do that.
Additionally, very few students participated in the synchronous classes due to lack of internet connection.

Yes, we did. First of all, we were teaching a big amount of students without interacting with them. Teaching English is a big challenge so we need students to face to face to make them produce and practice the pronunciation. In this case, it was very difficult to try to teach using modules or teaching online. So it is very frustrating trying to look for the best strategy to teach something in these conditions.

The first challenge will be the one related to classroom routines and procedures. Students have been home during these 2 years doing whatever they want whenever they want. It will be difficult for them to adjust.
The second challenge will be the great differences in levels (language proficiency) of our students. Since not all of them dedicated the same amount of time and effort during these 2 years.

My biggest frustration was related to pronunciation. Many times I got dissapointed that I dedicated a lot of time for modelling pronunciation in live sessions. I spent hours recording audios and videos and for sharing them to the different groups. I made use of songs to reinforce the vocabulary pronunciation. None of that seemed to work :(

What are the ELT challenges ahead of you as face-to-face instruction is about to begin? ---I think about face-to-face instruction after the Pandemic, and I come up with two big challenges, the first one will be dealing with the academic/knowledge-related weaknesses resulting from two years of non-optimal instruction (because of the series of difficulties and technological limitations teachers have had to overcome this time), and, in second place, we also have the re-integration factor (coming back to school face-to-face), which involves several changes for students as well as teachers after two years getting used to a reduce schedule time, and a more online adapted teaching methodology.

During these two years, I worked overtime with my students from different areas in Panama. In addition, they did not understand how to enter the platform.
