The Cuban War for independence was when Cuba fought Spain for autonomy. Along the way, Spain used inhumane, brutal tactics that the United States disliked. In 1898, the U.S. battleship Maine exploded, increasing tensions between the United States and Spain. These increased disagreements and tensions between Spain and the U.S. led the U.S. to ally with Cuba to help them win their independence, which they acheived in 1898. The lyrics "I had some help/ It ain't like I can make this kinda mess all by myself" displays how America was able to help Cuba. Cuba may not have been able to gain their independence without the support and military backing of the US.

Father Miguel Hidalgo was a Catholic Priest in the 18th century. He became known as the father of the Mexican Revolution as he was a leader of the Mexican War for Independence. He was the first person to start a rebellion against Spanish rule. The lyrics "We're not gonna take it anymore" by Twisted Sister can be applied to Father Hidalgo's attitude towards how they were being treated by the Spanish. Also, "We'll fight the powers that be" and "Oh, you're so condescending" shows his determination to gain independence and why he feels that way.
