Our community has a lot of small owned businesses, there's one right next to my house and it's great. In our neighborhood if new businesses came in it would make the houses even more expensive and it would kick out the people living and working here. So I think they can be related, people do need smaller owned stores because not only do they keep the neighborhood as a closer knit community, but it also keeps it being more affordable. If something like a Walmart came in, it would take up a lot of space and people and small businesses would be forced out, so Mr. Kim's (Ins Choi's) message is true and important when relating it to our own community.

In the Rainier Beach community, a problem the neighborhood is facing is gentrification. New condos have been popping up around Rainier Ave, and developers are squeezing as many houses as they can onto a tiny plot of land, all houses selling for over a million. The people of Rainier Beach built this community and there are many small and Black owned businesses here. The point Ins Choi is making isn’t just about the Korean neighborhood in Canada Appa’s store is in, but a problem that many primarily POC communities are facing.

The audience of this play is everyone who uses convenience stores. Ins Choi wants to make people think about what’s going on with the people at the register and be aware of problems in gentrifying communities. If the audience isn’t exposed to neighborhoods like that, the message might have less meaning or they might even be offended by it. I agree with the author’s message that these communities are important and should be protected because Rainier Beach and South Seattle face the same problems. The play is a bit more realistic than other small business owner vs. real estate developer stories I’ve read. This is because the real estate agent actually respects Mr. Kim and is friends with him instead of writing him off as an immigrant who doesn’t know anything about business or a stubborn old man.

The audience can be everyone to help them understand Mr. Kim's perspective, to someone who can relate to him, maybe another Korean immigrant or someone who owns their own small business. Or maybe someone who would disagree with him, someone who doesn't have that life experience, someone who owns or works for a large business like a Walmart or Target.
I agree that a neighborhood does need some small businesses to help it stay grounded in order to keep it from becoming overrun with rich and large businesses.
You could compare it to any kind of media about immigrants moving to America or Canada and trying to assimilate into that society, Jane the Virgin, One day at a time or Never have I ever,
