A main cause of the Cold War was idealogical conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. The United States was primarily an idividualist democracy while the Soviet Union was a communist nation. Many American's also feared the spread of communism in the US. The tensions between these two superpowers only grew after the Soviets created their first nucular weapon.

https://www.historycrunch.com/causes-of-the-cold-war.html#/

The nucular test, code name RDS-1, could be considered the start of the Cold War and the tedious struggles between the US and the Soviets. This nucular weapon closely resembled the Fat Man bomb because that is what the design was based off of. By the end of the war, the United States would test 1,032 nucular tests and the Soviet Union 715.

https://www.ctbto.org/specials/testing-times/29-august-1949-first-soviet-nuclear-test#:~:text=On%2029%20August%201949%2C%20the,a%20yield%20of%2022%20kilotons.

The purpose of this wall was to keep parts of Germany secluded so that citizens couldn't flee the Soviet controlled East Berlin to the Western Allies controlled West Berlin. This race to space began when the USSR sucsessfully launched the first artifical satillite, Sputnik 1, into orbit on October 4, 1957. It ended on July 20,1969, when the NASA sent Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aidrin on the Apollo 11 mission where they victoriously landed on the Moon.
Arms Race: Late 1940s to Early 1990s

The Arms Race played a huge part in the Cold War and some people say that to some extent, it is still continuing to this day. An arms race happens when two countries or more increase in military power and political superiority over each other. The Cold War could be considered one of the largest and most expensive arms races in history. This included the fight to have the best nucular bombs, missiles, military machinery, aircraft, ships, tanks, and weapons. The Industrial Revolution and both of the world wars brought about the agressive expansion of military power and weaponry but the Cold War seemed to somehow take that to another level. A lot of nucluar tests occured during this time and to this day, we are still living with some of the dire consequences of the Arms Race.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/arms-race

The Suez Crisis was a result of the Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalizing the canal. The Seuz Canal at this time controlled the travel of two-thirds of the oil used in Europe and was a very improtant waterway. After Egypt took control of the canal, Israeli armed troops headed towards the waterway. France and Great Britian joined the Iraeli forces in a military attack. The Egyptians fought back until the three allies bombed their airforce and the allies took back control of the canal. After this, the US was angry with the British and French and the Soviet's were curently invading Hungry but they were considering entering the Suez Crisis on the Egyptian's side. This only increased tensions between the US and Soviets.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/suez-crisis
https://www.ducksters.com/history/cold_war/suez_crisis.php

Bay of Pigs Invasion: April 17, 1961

The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an attempted takeover that completly backfired. It was launched by the Kennedy aministration to push Cuban leader Fidel Castro from power. Castro was a communist that had ties to the Soviets and this concerned the US. The original plan was to overthrow Castro but it eventually turned into a plan to help the exiles invade the island. The hope behind this was that locals would join forces with them and they would quickly take over. They attacked on April 17, 1961, but it went terribly wrong. As the invasion was happening, the US troops were trying to get the ammunition off the ships but it took to long. Before they could even unload the ships, they were sunk by Cuban planes. The paratroopers also had no luck in slowing down Castro's forces, which was thier original purpose. They were clearly outsmarted and the ones who tried to retreat pretty much all got captured. This was a huge fail for the US and made the government and CIA look weak and inept. The Soviets gained Cuba as a new ally and strengthened thier power in the war.

https://www.ducksters.com/history/cold_war/bay_of_pigs.php
https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/bay-of-pigs-invasion

The Red Scare was the most intense part of the communism takeover that happened during the Cold War. Lots of very close calls happened during this time and alot of the actions and desisions that the US made during this time still plays a part in our society and government. The first Red Scare started with the Russian Revolution back during WWI and just escalated from there. The fear of communism turned into hysteria and personally affected many Americans. The Red Scare led to alot of false acusations and stereotypes, which resulted in a lot of the actions that took place during the war.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/red-scare

Economic struggles and post war consequenses followed closly after the Cold War. Not to mention some of the affects on the climate and ecosystem that the nucular bomb and war machenary testing has caused continues to harm us to this day. Also while the US and the Soviets were trying to triumph each other, other countries grabbed at the chance to rise to power. This war left the two superpowers in dept and the US and Soviets had to rebuild their countries because of the neglect towards the citizens that comes with war. War often leads to hardships after for the countries involved and the Cold War was no exeption.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/000271626636600115?icid=int.sj-abstract.similar-articles.1

Collapse of the Soviet: December 25, 1991

The collapse of the Soviet was the end to a long and terrifiying war. Representitives from the Soviet republics (which includes the Ukraine, Georgia, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) had already announced that they would no longer be apart of thr Soviet and instead they established the Commonwealth of Independent States. The three Baltic republics (Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia) had already declaered their independance from the USSR and only one republic remained. This was largely due to the great number of radical reforms that Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev had implemented during his six years as the leader of the USSR. However, Gorbachev was disappointed in the collapse of his nation and resigned from his job on December 25. This was the collapse of the Soviet Union.

https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/fall-of-soviet-union
