Explain The Act: In 1765 parliament passed the stamp act, this ment that there was tax on all printed materials. Newspapers, wills, and even playing cards had to have a stamp on them showing that the tax was paid.

Why Did The British Pass This Act: The British passed the stamp act because they were deprived of money from the French Indian War. So to get the money back they taxed the colonists.

How Did The Colonists React: The Colonists were outraged they fought saying that only their representatives could tax them. Patrick Henry got people to take action. They passed a resolution-- a formal expression of opinion-- declaring it had "the only and sole exclusive right and power to lay taxes" on its citizens.

Explain The Act: In 1767, Parliament passed the Townshend Acts to tax imported goods, including glass, tea and paper. The tax was paid before the goods were brought inside the colonies.

Why Did The British Pass This Act? The British passed this act because the British wanted money. The British needed new revenue because they were in debt from the French & Indian War.

How did the colonists react? By 1767, colonists opposed ALL British taxes. Protests of the new Townshend Acts started immediately. Women began boycotts of British goods. They urged colonists to make homemade fabrics instead of wearing fabrics made in Britain.
