DAMNNNN. ok i love the delivery in the monolouge so far, I think you're doing a great job with your intent in pauses and voice control. For the final, maybe focus on what you are really trying to convey to the audience, are the stars a metaphor? why are they a metaphor? what has happened before that has brought your character to say this monolouge?

good choice in poem. I think it's a strong peice you can really develope. but, it was difficult telling what you were trying to show the audience. Work on your intent because it almost sounded like you were just reading a poem, not performing it in a theatrical way

wowwww, ok you hooked me right from the start with your despiration, which I loved. it was very relatable which is the goal when preforming in front of an audience. The big pause you take before the end, needs to be more of a realization within your character because right now it seemed like someone walked in the room or something caught your eye that made you stop.

It's a strong choice, but it didn't feel as tough you were preforming it. it just seemed like you were reading it off the page for a class. If that was your intent, then great, but I didn't get a sense of your character, and why they were reading that peice of text.

I love the character choice, this was really strong. Make sure you articulate your words, and don't rush. Maybe utillize your space more, because as an audience member I get hooked at the begining but with you just sitting there where I can only see your head, I start to lose interest in whats going on.

AHAHAH. ok the Reginald line. GOLD. I loved it. Started off great with the lipgloss and the pissy attitude, but make sure you're conveying the "bully" the entire time, because in some parts of your monolouge I could see Shira trying to break free and not be mean but, you just have to remeber that Regina George is going to snap, or antagonzie anyone at any points she wants. Maybe, heighten her bragging a bit, with the whole "yeah I died for 15 seconds but i'm just that perfect heaven couldn't take me yet." you know?

Your piece is fantastic. I loved how you found a monologue that is very meaningful to you. the monologue takes a concept of just eating and turned it into a truly meaningful piece, that i could tell you connected well to. with that all said, to make your piece even better I think you could add more expression, i can tell your piece is meaningful to you. show the audience more of what they are already seeing, and more of what they want to see.

_ London Martin

I think they added to the performance quite well from an audience perspective. I think the only thing that could be improved on is the annunciaion of words and the pace. I think it was a little tough to understand at some points because of how fast you were speaking with the character voice on top of it. Otherwise an incredible performance and I'm glad that the bear I murdered for Medea made an appearence ;).
- Adele

One thing to help you elevate this might be to keep your character consistent because even when Regina is "apologizing" she is still being that mean girl character and never once loses that attitude throughout the monologue.

I very much enjoyed how much you embraced the character by acting very full of yourself and how you could not stop talking about your pranks and over the top camp spirit. It was very comedic yet at the same time very believable and natural. Your hand gestures and blocking choices were very appropriate and natural for what you were talking or rambling about. One small thing that could be improved on would perhaps just be working on diction or talking just a little slower at some places. But I could tell that was an effective character choice and I guess the thing to work on would be to find a way to get the words out clearly, while also keeping that character quirk. But overall it was a very solid performance. -Jordan D.

A wonderful and very relevant choice for a piece. I thought the way you delivered it shows the pain and hardship that comes from society's idea of what you need to look like and who you should be. As you listed out all the things society expects a woman to be and do, it was clear how passionate who were and how serious this issue truly is. The only thing to really work on would just be to add some different levels of emotion and energy to each phrase so it is not just communicated with one level of energy throughout the piece. But besides that, I love your choice for this piece. It truly directs attention to a pressing societal issue in our modern day. -Jordan D.

Adding more breath to support the low volume phrases will help.

Thank you for sharing!
Ms. Clarke

Sorry...YRDSB...need to find a solution for the language that upholds the integrity of the piece.

Ms. Clarke

woah! Nathan, your performance was awesome and there were many things you have done well such as putting emotion into the words giving meaning to them so they're not just words being spoken so good job there! some things you could work on is watch how much you are moving and place moment to your words because as i was watching could see you slightly moving side to side and it temporarily took out some of the emotion you were putting into your rant. Another thing was your pacing, although your piece is a rant it was a little bit fast and hard to catch onto every word you said so maybe slow it down a little bit to the speed when you gave examples of people not social distancing. again great job
- alex k

The personality of your character is coming through nicely through facial expressions as well as vocal variety (pitch, speed etc.). Great articulation and very engaging piece!

Nice work, Alex! Great use of vocal techniques and the close up camera angle works well for your piece. A couple of things to consider- first, who are you speaking to? It seems unclear, but if you commit to a choice it will make your piece stronger. For example, are you talking to a neighbour's kid who finally got to ask you some surfing questions? Are you vlogging and trying to reach thousands? Set the intention and your tactics will become clearer. Second, when you are telling the story of how you encountered a shark, really see that imagery in your mind's eye. If the actor does this, a magical thing happens where the audience can visualize it better too, and that is the heart of storytelling. This will also mean not glancing over at the script for the final!
Good stuff!

Wonderful job, Sam! I think the greatest challenge will be to transition into the darker scenes at the end, contrast them with the beginning scenes, and show the passing of time in your acting choices (not just the text as a clue). I'm wondering if anything can be done with setting and lighting to help amplify the effect. Great work on the two parts submitted. There is a lot of clarity in your character's desire to share his situation as well as what is happening in the scene. The vocal choices were effective. The set up (camera, your position and eyes) made it very clear you were talking to a friend and it actually felt like she was in the room. Pacing, facial expressions, and vocal inflections all clearly depicted your feelings towards your own sister's relationship and that of your friend's to her brother. The jealousy/sadness is still pretty subtle, but may come out more as your monologue progresses. As you prepare the final, see how you can continue to build up the intensity to reach some kind of climax. Wonderful job!

Great intensity and spookiness, Mira! The essence of your character is really coming through. I found it interesting comparing your character bio to your performance. The evil spirits are your friends and the only ones you need as per your bio, but I liked the element of fear that you had towards them. I think it is authentic and more nuanced this way. Great costume, make-up, and vocal inflections. Can you explain to me your set-up? I have only watched the movie once like a million years ago so I don't really remember, but I was pulled out for a moment wondering what this character is doing in a very small space/closet-like setting.
Great job!

Hi Alex! The composition is really strong and I love the setting. For next steps: be clear about where the person is who are you are speaking to (be strong with that eye contact - sometimes it drifts to the camera) and have a pause at the end so we know that you are done. Strong costume choice! Look forward to seeing the final performance.
-Ms. Clarke

Hi Nathan! I appreciate the song underscoring. The script scoring work is really clear in your vocal delivery. I couple of things to consider before submitting tomorrow: 1. try to find more physical level contrast during the thought trails to match the vocalization work (thinking of exploring with physical changes in posture to show the progression of thoughts) 2. eye contact (are you speaking to someone specifically or can you play to different corners of the room)? 3. How can breath and pausing help to show the intensity building into the story/the ending.

Your projection and articulation is very strong. Looking forward to seeing the final performance.
Ms. Clarke

Hi Mia! A great piece of writing that I know that a great deal of students will resonate with. I'm wondering for the final performance if you could explore with more vocal dynamics to add some more levels to your storytelling. Are there points that cause more test anxiety or frustration? How can you use stresses, pitch and tempo to build the character's feelings towards the situation that they are in? Looking forward to seeing the final performance!
- Ms Clarke

Great job, Adele! Your costume, set, and props are all fantastic and add to your piece. Your physicalization and facial expressions are consistently effective. See if you can slow down the pacing and really absorb the meaning behind your father's words- especially the one's that give off the 'this is just a phase' vibe. Play around with some of the words you are emphasizing too so that you can communicate the deepest sense of how your character is reacting to the letter.

Nice job, Paris! Your emotions are very clear and the intensity and nuance in your facial expressions are excellent. The variation in volume especially the "deadly quiets" are really working. The pauses in the first half are also effective. I would suggest when you get to the "Monday morning, you are history" part begin picking up the pace so that the momentum isn't lost as you reveal your revenge plan. Nice work!

Wow, beautiful performance, Anastasia! A really great delivery of your piece. The pacing and pauses and sniffling really create an authentic character and believable emotions. It looks like my feedback for improvement is similar to your peers- how can we see your face more clearly? The blue lighting and music really suit the mood of the piece but you can amplify the power of the piece if you can also have visible facial expressions. Amazing work!

Nice work, Kyle! I'm not sure how much of this is staying or going as per our conversation today, but here is some feedback anyway. I see what you mean about working on your setting and overlapping the parts. When you sort that out there will be more clarity. Great intensity and facial expressions. Especially, when your character is on the ground, see if you can project your voice more (it seems like you were holding back when the words were ready to explode out). Good stuff!

Hi Asia! Thank you for submitting this video. So engaged by your character. The direct address to the character really invites your character to listen to your full speech. The blocking is very naturalistic. I'm wondering if you could get the same intensity in storyline and performance with adding a little more variation in pacing and pauses so it isn't the same fast tempo from beginning to end. Look forward to seeing the final performance! Ms. Clarke

Or, if you want to keep the character really strict and serious, you could look directly into the camera as if you are telling this directly to someone. Look forward to seeing the final performance. Ms. Clarke
