The Curious Carrot

There was once a farmer named Joe who loved to eat carrots. All day and all night he ate carrot soup, carrot cake, carrot pie, carrot surprise (the surprise being a plate of carrots) and many more delicacies which were rather strange but yummy only to farmer Joe. So he always had the nicest patches of farmland to help grow his beloved carrots, this made his wife (who surprisingly hated carrots) very upset as she preferred lettuce.

Now the farmer was growing a new batch of carrots and among them was a very curious carrot, he really wanted to escape his dirt patch but he was dug in to deep and sure a worm or a beetle or someone would have helped him out but the didn't because he seemed to make a habit out of spying on other people and knowing their business which made him an excellent gossiper and almost no one, not even a worm wanted to be his friend as they knew that he would just spy on them. No dear reader, no good ever comes of doing this and this is exactly the fate that befell the poor, curious little carrot.

Now one sunny day he finally managed to get out of his little dirt patch and rolled out onto the farmers lawn, basking in the nourishing light of the morning sun when suddenly he happened to notice a bit of fertilizer on the ground and just like we would eye a delicious cake, he too was eyeing that fertilizer and just as he was about to eat it a lettuce from the lettuce bed rolled over and claimed the fertilizer! Poor little carrot was a bit startled at this unexpected guest and lay there open mouthed which just caused his jaws to hurt of course. Then came a great struggle over the dropped fertilizer, sometimes it seemed as though the lettuce was winning but then the curious little carrot overpowered the lettuce at the last second but just then the farmer's wife took the lettuce away for cleaning and the carrot ate his fertilizer in peace.

Soon this curious little carrot mistook the stable of a donkey for a huge home and rolled in. Now this particular donkey absolutely loved carrots and would always eat one if he had the chance and here was a juicy orange carrot just for him! The curious carrot wondered what this strange vegetable was and decided to poke his nose in this vegetables business too and he begun a polite conversation with the strange vegetable who was actually a donkey!

The little carrot skipped the hi's and the hellos and jumped directly into personal matters which is why he was called annoying as you can see due to the fact he would rather speak about personal matters more than general. So the donkey pretended to be deaf as the carrot spoke "Come closer little carrot because I cannot hear you." And so the little carrot moved in closer towards the donkey and started speaking again and the donkey yet again asked him to move closer and he repeated this until the little carrot was right in front of his mouth and so the donkey spoke "Dear friend, I am getting very hungry. I think that it is time for lunch." And the carrot enthusiastically replied with " You are right, it is time for lunch and so what will you be eating? Will it be fertilizer?" And with a loud bray the donkey yelled and said "NO! My lunch will be YOU!"

And with that he gulped the carrot and that my dear reader will be the last we will ever hear of the curious carrot which might be a good thing.
--Eeshani

The autobiography of a swallow

Hello, my name is Spencer and I am the oldest one amongst all of my siblings because I hatched first. I really wish that I wasn’t though because it means that you have to find food when your parents can’t and that is not really my favorite and when they go out to forage for food I have to take care of my five siblings whose names are Sarah, Sally, Serena, Sam and Striker and at night we always cuddle close to keep each other warm and safe. I really loved them and they loved me so we were always happy when I was left in charge of them and we used to play the best of games.

This routinely habit continued for two years until we were old enough to fend for ourselves and so our parents threw us out of the nest and it was then that me and my siblings parted, I hope that wherever they are that they are safe and that they are happy. I could barely find food in the wilderness of the forest and the howls of the wolves at night kept me awake, I would have starved to death if it were not for Luke who was a kind passerby who took pity on a helpless swallow.

He took care of me by feeding me and letting me go out for regular walks by opening my cage and letting me fly so this occurred for nearly five years but then I found out that Luke was moving and that he couldn’t take me with him and so I flew and flew till I reached a dense forest with humongous trees, I flew in on top of the tallest tree in the forest and by chance I found the nest of a she-swallow and I managed to successfully mate with her.

We had three kids whom all hatched at the same time which I felt was a miracle and I am happy to say that life was comfortable until the day we had to migrate. We were about to take off when some foresters came and cut our tree and to make matters worse there were hunters behind them waiting to shoot us. I made my wife and kids run as I distracted them, fortunately I didn’t get hurt but I had lost my way in the dense forest and flying up was impossible with the hunters waiting and every time I tried, I just barely missed being skewered and so escape was not an option. Soon winter came and the cold breeze took its toll. My last wish before I freeze to death while recounting this was that my wife and my kids are safe.

—Eeshani

Rani our great nanny is a wonderful philosopher and scholar. She is an amazing multi-linguist and her mathematical calculations can blow your mind. This is the topic of debate that Rani posed one day before my mom.

"Madam, I have a question. Three words buy, bye,by all have the sound the same but why do they have different meanings.English is really a funny language" And so she forced us to wear our thinking caps to provide her an answer so as she made dinner she kept asking for the answer and ended up almost burning our chicken.

Finally to satisfy her we had to google it with her breathing down our necks. It was hard to focus but finally the web page loaded and..........nothing!!!!

It didn't explain anything but it gave us what those words are called, examples of such words and if your curious what we learned from that then look no further than:
HOMONYMS are words that sound alike but have different meanings. Homophones are a type of homonym that also sound alike and have different meanings, but have different spellings. HOMOGRAPHS are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings.

Moral of the story: Rani will always ask questions that even google cannot produce answers to.
