In the beginning, both Eastern and Western Cristians shared the same beliefs, but they began to divide. This division started after the seventh Ecumenical Council in 787 CE and was considered complete in the Great Schism in 1054 CE. According to holy tradition, it was Jesus himself who founded the Eastern Orthodoxy. When it was founded, its followers where spread throughout the Middle East, Russia, and the Ballans. Its center is and was Constantinople. The year of founding is hard to state because the split between Eastern Orthodoxy and other Orthodoxy churches was gradual, but it could be argued that it was either 787 CE or 1054 CE. 787 CE was when they began to split, whereas 1054 CE was when the split became very defined.
-Jay

The sacred text of the Eastern Orthodox church is the bible. The Eastern Orthodoxy bible is similar to most western churches. However, instead of the Hebrew one, its old testament is based on the ancient Jewish translation, translated into Greek, called the Septuagint. -Victoria N

The Orthodox believe that the bread and wine (at church) are truly changed into the body of Christ, and they are given a spoon containing both the bread and the wine (the bread is the body and the wine is the blood). Priests of the orthodox church are not permitted to marry unless they are already married. Bishops must always be celibate, and most priest do not shave their beard in accordance to the bible (Leviticus 19:27). People are allowed to remarry and divorce but only under certain circumstances. They believe there is one true god who is the creator of the angels and the heavens. They believe god sent forth his son Jesus Christ to bear the sins of people and uplifting the human race for salvation. They believe God is one in substance and triune in three persons (Father, Son, Holy Ghost). They believe Jesus was borne from virgin Mary and that Jesus Christ was sent on a divine mission. - Kipp K
