Adana kebab is a famous dish from Turkiye, made from hand-minced lamb meat mixed with red pepper flakes, salt, and a bit of tail fat for extra flavor. The mixture is shaped around a long, flat skewer and grilled over open charcoal, which gives it a smoky aroma and a deliciously charred crust. Known for its bold spice and juicy texture, Adana kebab stands as one of the most iconic dishes in Turkish cuisine.

Traditionally, it is served with lavash or pita bread, grilled vegetables like tomatoes and green peppers, and a side of onions mixed with parsley and sumac. This dish represents the rich culinary heritage of southern Turkiye, where spices and fire meet in perfect balance. It’s more than just a food, it’s a cultural symbol, best enjoyed fresh from the grill alongside a cold glass of ayran.

Taşköprü (The Stone Bridge)

The Taşköprü, or Stone Bridge, is one of the oldest bridges still in use today. Spanning the Seyhan River (historically the Sarus River), it was built to facilitate movement across the water. Historically, its construction is widely attributed to the Roman Empire, approximately in the 2nd Century AD. Today, the bridge is officially used as a prominent symbol for both the Adana Metropolitan Municipality and the Yüreğir Municipality.

Historical Debate:

The bridge's true age remains a subject of historical discussion. Hittite tablets discovered in Hattusa (Çorum) describe King Arnuwanda I's campaign in a province named Adania (Adana), where the text mentions a river crossed by a bridge. According to some claims, this ancient bridge was the Taşköprü, which would place its origin significantly earlier than the Roman era. However, while the potential for pre-Roman origins is acknowledged, the majority of historians accept that the current structure was constructed during the Roman period.

Sarımsaklı Köfte, also known as Garlic Bulgur Balls, has its roots in the southern regions of Turkey, especially Mersin and Adana. These areas are famous for their rich and spicy cuisine, heavily influenced by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern traditions. Historically, sarımsaklı köfte was a common meal among farming families who relied on local ingredients like bulgur, garlic, and tomato paste. Because it is meatless, it was often made during times when meat was scarce or for vegetarian fasting days, making it both practical and culturally significant.

In Turkish culture, sarımsaklı köfte is more than just food—it is a symbol of hospitality and home cooking. It is often served during family gatherings, picnics, or community events, where dishes are shared among many people. The dish reflects the Turkish value of preparing meals with care and flavor, even from the simplest ingredients. It also highlights the importance of garlic and bulgur in Anatolian cuisine, both of which are staples of Turkish rural life.

The preparation of sarımsaklı köfte involves soaking fine bulgur in hot water until it softens, then mixing it with boiled and mashed potatoes, tomato and pepper paste, salt, and spices such as cumin and paprika. The mixture is kneaded until smooth, shaped into small balls, and lightly boiled. Finally, the cooked köftes are mixed with a sauce made of olive oil, garlic, tomato paste, and sometimes red pepper flakes. The result is a flavorful, aromatic dish that brings together history, tradition, and the comforting taste of Turkish home kitchens.

Hello, today I’m going to talk about a traditional folk dance from the Adana region called Aşık and Maşuk. This dance is a fun and humorous performance that combines love, comedy, and the spirit of the people. In the dance, the “aşık” represents a young man deeply in love, while the “maşuk” represents the person he loves. Interestingly, both roles are performed by men. The aşık expresses his feelings with exaggerated and funny movements, which makes the audience laugh while also showing the emotional side of love.

The costumes used in the dance are very colorful and eye-catching. The aşık usually wears red, while the maşuk wears pink or other bright colors. The dancers have small bells on their belts that jingle as they move. The dance is performed with lively drum and zurna music, reflecting the cheerful and warm nature of the people of Adana. Aşık and Maşuk is not just a form of entertainment — it is also an important cultural tradition that shows the humor, emotions, and creativity of the region’s people.

If you ask anyone from Adana what makes our city special, they might start talking about kebabs, the Seyhan River or the heat that feels like you're standing in front of a giant oven. But for me, one of the real stars of Adana’s kitchen is Analı Kızlı Köfte. The name itself is quite interesting, it translates to English as “mother and daughter meatballs.” Don’t worry, there’s no family drama here! The “mother” is the big bulgur ball stuffed with minced meat and spices while the “daughters” are the smaller, plain ones that swim together in a delicious tomato-based broth. It's a dish that brings families together and it’s a nice example of how food can connect different generations.

Analı Kızlı Köfte has its roots in the rich food traditions of southern Türkiye, especially in Adana. The meal shows the creativity and hospitality of us. Each meatball carefully shaped and every spice perfectly balanced. In the past, this dish was made for special moments or when guests came over because it takes some time and effort to prepare. Today, it’s still a meal that reminds us of home, tradition, and the warmth of our mothers' kitchens. While Adana is famous for its kebabs, I think Analı Kızlı Köfte definitely deserves some love. After all, not every dish can make you feel full and a little sentimental at the same time!

Varda Bridge, also known as the German Bridge, is located in Haçkırı village, Karaisalı district, Adana. This bridge, which was built between 1907 and 1912, is approximately 172 meters long and 99 meters high. This bridge, made of concrete, steel and stone, is a railway bridge that is still actively used today.

The bridge was built by German engineers within the scope of the Baghdad Railway Project carried out during the Ottoman Empire. This project aimed to connect Istanbul to the Persian Gulf with a railway line. Both Turkish workers and German engineers took part in its construction. Considering the technical conditions of the period, the construction of the bridge is considered a highly advanced engineering achievement.

Architecturally, the bridge was designed as an arched stone viaduct. The bridge, which crosses a deep valley, consists of 11 large arches. Stone blocks were held together with iron clamps, and special mortar mixtures were used to increase durability. The bridge, which draws attention with both its aesthetic appearance and solid structure, continues to exist as a functional structure over which trains pass today.

Both Turkish workers and German engineers took part in its construction.

The Bebekli Church is located in the Tepebağ district of Adana. Its real name is Saint Paul Catholic Church. However, people call it “Bebekli Church” for a special reason. There is a statue of the Mother Mary on top of the church, and from a distance this statue looks like a baby. Because of this, locals call it Bebekli Church.

It was built between 1880 and 1890 by Italian Catholic missionaries. This building is an important symbol showing that Muslim and Christian cultures lived together in Adana for many years. Today, Christmas ceremonies and various religious events are still held in the church. It is also one of the most visited historical places by tourists.

Citrus fruits grown in Adana have always played a big role in the region’s daily life. With its warm climate and rich soils, Çukurova is the perfect place for growing oranges, mandarins, and lemons.

That’s why many people call Adana the citrus capital of Turkey. For generations, citrus farming has supported local families and helped shape the character of the area. Today modern packing centers and strong export routes keep this tradition alive, sending Adana’s citrus to markets far beyond the region.

It was built on the Seyhan River mainly to prevent floods and generate electricity. The construction started in 1953 and it was completed and put into use in 1956.

But for me, it’s not just a dam anymore. The area around the dam lake is perfect for walking, clearing your mind, or just enjoying the view. Especially at sunset, the atmosphere there feels completely different. Whenever I want to get away from the crowded city for a bit, it’s one of the first places that comes to my mind.
