By Sharon M. Draper

This book is about Melody, an almost eleven-year-old girl with Cerebral Palsy (CP) who has been unable to talk or move without assistance. Most of my fourth grade students have very little experience around people with disabilities, so the book creates ample opportunity to explore enriching information through a text set. Out of My Mind will be used as a read aloud during a book club unit. It is a diverse book that provides many opportunities for discussion throughout the story, making it an exceptional mentor text for students as they develop the skills to confidently discuss different books in their own book clubs.

Book Notes - Sharon Draper - Sharon Draper reads an excerpt from Chapter 1 of Out of My Mind.
