It was easily spread. And caused mass casualties. 
The Black Plague originated in the Gobi Desert.  The Black Death started with a rat. A flea bite the rat, then carried the rats blood to its next victim, a human, were the flea bite the human, injecting the blood of the rat, causing the Black Death. 
Symptoms of the Black Death are aching limbs, shivering fits, feeling week, vomiting blood, and the lymph nods would swell and turn black. 
If you were infected you were not going to survive. If you were aiding someone who was sick it was more then likely you would become ill. If someone in your house was ill most everyone would be infected or dead by the end of the week.

If you were in the same room as an infected person then you were more then likely to get it. In the grim reality if you sneezed you had just killed everyone around you. People would stray from their homes to make sure they would not be infected. They would travel by land and sea. Little did they know they were taking the disease with them. They took the diseases to Spain, France, Germany, and England.
