Book Review

I think that the book was very interesting; I found it really hard to put it down. The book was very well written and the characters were very enjoyable and I still can't stop thinking about it. The ending of the book specifically. The ending of the book focuses on the death on a major character and it definitely took a toll on me. The book also included some portrayal of psychological issues but not as much as the actual battles between McMurphy and Nurse Ratched. I think it mostly focused on McMurphy's impact on the other patients in the mental hospital versus some of the psychological issues within the book like schizophrenia. I would recommend this book to people who are into psychological thrillers, and who are looking for a really good book in general. The age group would probably be 16 and up.

Powerful Passage

In the part of the book where McMurphy is given a lobotomy. I thought that this lobotomy was similar to death. It is shown by this quote, "I lifted the pillow, and in the moonlight I saw the expression hadn't changed from the blank, dead-end look the least bit, even under suffocation,"(271). Before the lobotomy McMurphy, had been full of life, but was put out of his misery without a change in expression. Although some would say otherwise, it wasn't really murder because McMurphy was already dead on the inside. No one is alive without their personality. While reading, I saw some similarities between the lobotomy to the death penalty. Both lobotomies and the death penalties are used as a last resort for unsolvable problems within the society. Not only that but they are both are a medical procedures and are chosen for the victim by other people. I used to think that in certain cases that the death penalty was a good solution. But after reading this book, I thought who are we as humans to tell how someone should end their life? We can't just act like we know someone entirely, because of one action.
