Some acted as messengers or nurses, or helped smuggle weapons. They had a variety of important roles ranging from the traditional female society roles like cleaning and cooking, to serving as couriers and liaison offices. They also fought in the resistance, one out of seven combatants were women. Even though the resistance ultimately failed, women were definitely far from just being mothers and wives.
