It specifically looks at oncology palliative care for adolescents and young adults. Often times, palliative care providers do not have any experience working with younger individuals. That is where the holistic practice of occupational therapy comes into play. There are not many OTs in this setting working with this specific population yet, so this scholarly article is also a call to action. This study also explores the lived experiences of women who participated in the study. It was noted that increased isolation, difficulty with disclosure, and decrease in peer support was common among women who suffered from a diagnosis of HIV (Beauregard & Solomon, 2005). The roles of occupational therapy include education on energy conservation and work simplification, addressing ROM, balance, ambulation, cognition, education of resources and support within the community, return to work, and so many other areas. Individuals in the study expressed the increased difficulty with disclosing their struggles and challenges with the diagnosis.
