A person named Lutyens designed the house and the south-facing gardens as they are today. This house sits in 17 acres and has a rose garden, a terrace, a fish pond,  lawns leading down to a breathtaking view across the weld, a kitchen garden, and an old apple store. As well as woodlands to explore beyond the walls. Towards the front entrance, there are bluebells blossoming under the cozy tree canopy. The house is now 13 flats with 5 properties rarely open to the public. Frances Hodgson Burnett was inspired by a walled garden with a hidden gate here, so she called her book "The Secret Garden." When she was only 5, her father passed away which made them slowly lose their fortune. They moved to America in hope of finding the rich uncle that promised to help them, but that didn't work out, and they had to take shelter in an abandoned log cabin. At 15, she decided to write books to make money for her family. She wrote 5-6 books every month, and became her family's chief means of support. She was inspired to write the 'Secret Garden', because she and Mary Lennox both suffered the loss of both parents, though I think that she wished that her uncle could take her in like Mr.Craven.
