PlayPosit looks like a tool I could effectively use in special education to create engaging mini-lessons with opportunities for feedback integrated within the lessons. In these times of remote learning I think PlayPosit could make the remote experience more enjoyable for students! :)

My own daughter (3rd grader) used it last year with her teacher so I got to know it from the parent/teacher end. It was super easy for students to do their assignment (math, reading, etc.) and then the students could go back and narrate over their work to explain their thinking. Super easy and interactive.

This is more self-assessment than formative...but we have a 4,3,2,1 grading system at my school. So, we write our learning targets on the board and kids have a magnet with their name on it. They self-assess their progress on a target and then I can see who needs more help. Of course, you have to teach them to self assess and show many mentor tests or exemplars, but I like that they are owning their learning and I'm not the only one assessing them throughout the learning process.

Our School has recently started using PearDeck with the premium features as a great formative assessment tool. It gives the teachers immediate feedback on what students are understanding about a lesson and students are able to engage and interact with Lessons live using Google Slides and now PowerPoint. What is nice about this, is majority teachers already have Google Slides and PowerPoint presentations built so when using PearDeck they bring in the features of how they want students to answer questions. This is a quick, tool that does not take a lot of time to build especially when presentations are already built.

I use it in the virtual setting to check for student understanding during lecture, or to make connections at the beginning of a lesson. This allows for accountability in answering the questions, but also allows students to feel confident in answering what they know when toggling back and forth.

Students can use it more like a Kahoot (a whole class activity) or as individuals as a study unit. My students LOVE the game function because they like the competitive side of it. It is more "mature" looking too compared to other tools, like Kahoot, so I feel like it is more appropriate for high school aged students. The only downside is that the teacher account is not completely free.

I would write a problem to solve on the board and each student would solve on their whiteboard.
I have just started using Nearpod in my classroom, but have not used the formative assessment side of it yet. I have created some lessons because it is a great way to bring multimedia materials together. I am virtual for the year, but am planning on using Nearpod for math exit tickets as soon as I can get them set up. I think that will give me a good real time formative assessment of who needs more help on the concept. I do use Jamboard for that process right now, but I like the aspect that students can privately write down their answers in Nearpod and I can see them all at once.

GimKit is a fun way to engage students in formative assessment. It is similar to Kahoot but students earn game $ for correct answers and lose it for incorrect answers. They can use their game $ to buy power-ups and upgrades. You can play live like in Kahoot, or you can assign it as homework. It is graded for you. Students can even collaborate to create questions themselves. And GimKit Ink allows students to create a product and publish it so their sharing goes beyond just the teacher.

PearDeck is a total life-saver. I use it daily to get instant results. I can adjust my teaching. You have to use it with Google Slides. Unfortunately, the paid version is 1000 times better than the free version. The free version gives you several different types of questions you can add to your Google Slides, but you can't see who is giving which answer unless you have the paid version. I have had the paid version all year. I was able to get my school to buy it. It was worth every penny. I structure my whole class around my PearDeck. You can use PearDeck to present or set it so it's student paced. When schilars are absent, I have them go through the student-paced slides. It tells me who completed them and who didn't.

These and some of the other tools I did not have access to when I used the 'free' Kahoot, have allowed me to embed these tools throughout a class period. This has helped [some] students with engagement [although the phone can also be a distraction] and given me the ability to get some 'real-time' feedback that allows me to alter instruction during the same class period.

I find they work best for math problems or short answers. One student was worried that if he gave himself a four, I would make him teach it to the students who were struggling (which he did NOT want to do.) Once we discussed the purpose of the ticket, they were honest about their skills and appreciated knowing that we could go over that concept again if we needed to. When I used this in math it was clear to me that all three of my 6th graders grasped the day's topic and were ready to move on.

I have Jeopardy reviews for many of my units and students LOVE them! They always ask me to post it in Google Classroom so they can use it to study more for the test. They usually have a partner and a small whiteboard they write their answers on. It gives me instant data about where they need more help, keeps things fun and energetic in the classroom and provides a different type of formative or review. It also helps when I have a 'surprise' for the winners!

When our tech finally comes in I would love to utilize Seesaw and Socrative more. I like Seesaw to be able to have them do quick reviews during their down time with me while I'm with another grade. I like that they can also record themselves since I don't always get to listen to every one read aloud. Socrative looks good because I can create quick quizzes at their level to check their understanding.

I love Nearpod. There are so many different activities to choose from. For vocabulary they can use the matching cards/ memory game or take a quiz. For concepts, they can drag and drop information or draw something on the screen. During videos, I can add questions in that stop the video and record responses. The real time feedback allows me to adjust the presentation/ information quickly and efficiently. It also allows the students to quickly see where there classmates stand on mastery of the content- and hear ideas who in a traditional classroom might be "voiceless" because they are more timid in large groups. Nearpod gives every student a chance to share ideas and participate without being put on the spot... and in turn gives me more relevant feedback because I'm literally able to check in with EVERY student, not just the vocal minority.

One strategy that I tried was the four corners activity. I made three statements that I thought that my students might feel strongly about in relation to the novel that we are reading. I was able to get them to share and support their opinions, and check for understanding at the same time. The students were engaged and seem to really enjoy the activity!

Giving each individual access to the slide show offered a place where students could show their work, reflect upon and answer a
question, and make corrections before submitting the assignment.

We have been limiting students use of cell phones however, seeing that Padlet has a Mobil device I am going to explore y=using it for exit tickets and do nows.

White boards, exit tickets with self assessment and Kahoot are my go to for formative assessment. I took this class in search of some more variety to my lessons. White boards and Exit tickets are great for reteaching on the spot. I like to use Kahoot more for an overall understanding of where my whole class stands on a topic. I also love using IXL Analytics Live when I assign a particular target. It helps me to also reteach on the spot. Any way that I can quickly identify the areas that my students are struggling is a pro to me.

Working with students in small groups or one-to-one allows me understand how my students view the material and how they best learn. Visual works for some and auditory for others.

When tracking students progress, especially with multiple choice questions, I ask the students to share how confident they are in their answers. This helps me to know if they were guessing and just happened to get arrive at the right answer.
