We live in a world where we have calculators at our fingertips always. With that being said, I think it is really important for students to have a concept of metal math and being able to work problems without a calculator. Almost everywhere look there is always going to be one; on phones, computers, on desks at work. Yes, the kids should be able to do mental math without a calculator but if a child is having issues understanding then they will just fall behind and this could hurt them in the future.
