It is the combination of two galaxies colliding which resembles a knot with two rope ends on either side. A violent encounter caused clouds of gas within the two galaxies to become compressed and stirred up. This triggered a spike of star formation. Marked by speckled patches of bright blue, it can be seen clustered both in the center and along the trails of dust and gas. It form NGC 2623’s sweeping curves. There known as tidal tails. The tails extend for about 50,000 light years away from end to end. Many young, hot new born stars from in bright stellar clusters, at least 170 such clusters are known to exist within NGC 2623. It’s in a late stage of merging. Our Milk Way is thought to resemble NGC 2623 when it collides with our neighboring galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy in four billion years. This image was taken by the Hubble telescope about a month ago. It cannot be seen with a naked eye. Out of the many pictures viewed this one is fascinating; two mega galaxies colliding.
